As a counterpoint to SF Signal's "Top Couples in Science Fiction" I posted yesterday, here is SyFy Portal's...

Of the 10 couples listed, Joss provided 4 of 'em!

I'd add Mal and Inara. At the end of the BDM you know "something" has to happen between those two, but knowing Joss' track record with couples one of them will die or the relationship will blow apart.

OK, so....why does it say 'Washburns', plural? It makes it sound like both Zoe and Wash died. Probable that's the author's way of saying that was the end of them as a couple, which obviously it was, but we English purists might beg to differ.

Couldn't any relationship from a Joss Whedon show be classified as doomed? 'Cause really there aren't any that work out well in his shows, at least none I can think of.

There's no place I can be since I found Serenity.

I'm surprised Willow and Tara didn't make this list as well.

Yeah, what's up with that? If Wes & Fred and Giles & Jenny make the list you just ~have~ to have Willow & Tara in there. Especially since Tara's death was one of the most memorable and caused one of the biggest fan reactions in the history of the show.

Exactly. As much as I'd like to see SERENITY II or a FIREFLY spin-off or anything like that, I just know that if that were to happen, Joss would break up Simon and Kaylee. So if SERENITY is all that we'll get of them, than Simon and Kaylee are the only Joss couple perfectly frozen in time.

As per some of the other couples on the list, I have to say that the inclusion of The Doctor and Rose was warranted. Seeing them split apart in parallel universes was the most heartbreaking thing done on the series so far. I get pissed when people say that DOCTOR WHO is cheesy and campy. Because it's moments like those, or Rose seeing her father in the first season or The Doctor seeing the Dalek in the vault or the human Docotr realizing who he's supposed to be that puts this show on the shoulders of giants, in my perspective.
