I just discovered this site and notice htere are some news items about a Firefly movie...I had heard some rumblings about this...but was wondering if anyone could give me the low down on it...if its not too much trouble.

I watched the show when it was on, religiously every week (I think I missed one) and am now watching the DVD...The planned two hour premier would have kicked the series off right.

WHat a rich and full series. The western/sci fi dichotomy, and the characters so full, rich and rounded.

Welcome.

In short - Universal are producing the BDM (big damn movie). It will star the original cast. It is going to focus on the Reavers and Rivers past. Shooting begins in May. Release is expected to be in 2005. There are murmurs of a second movie or bringing it back to tv if the ticket sales are high enough.

Thanks for the response...Ill take Firefly any way I can get it...but 2 more years for a movie...and then 2 or 3 for another...thats a long time for it to take before it "possible" would come back to TV.

Yeah of course the reavers would have to be int he movie...it screams action shoot 'em up.

I wish this was on sci fi or USA or something...this story needs to be serialized.

Does anyone know if there is a firefly comic or anything?

There are no official comics, books or merchandise. However, if you click on The Blue Sun Room link at the top of the community page it will provide you with fan fiction, artwork, poems etc.

There are also fanvids. Links to the fanvids can also be found in the thread archives. Most are in the blue sun room message area (which is different to The Blue Sun Room). Here are a couple of my favs:

An online comic has mentioned firefly on a couple of occasions. I can't remember what the comic is called but if you check the thread archives you should find it.

First and foremost, welcome to the board XRCST. It's a pleasure to welcome another fan to the site.

Yes, Univeral is producing a film, called "Serenity", which Joss wrote and will be directing. According to official word all of the cast will return for the film, which begins filming in June. The film is slotted for release sometime in 2005, most likely summer or fall.

According to the press release Univeral had Joss write the script as a "springboard" for a renewed TV series. Whether or not it makes its way back to TV will depend on how well the movie does, and whether Universal wants to put it on Sci Fi Channel (which they own) or another network will pick it up.
