And I'm already nervous. Any tips from fanfic pros about how to deal with the waiting and wondering? (Yes, this is a shameless plug. Feel free to carry on the shamelessness).

DONCOAT

Read and enjoyed. For some reason I couldn't give a rating (got some moonbrain error message when I tried). I would have given an 8, and I'm a fairly harsh critic.

I noticed a couple minor grammatical errors, nothing too distracting. You did a pretty nice job with the character voices. Writing from River's perspective is a challenge, but that came out pretty well too. I would have liked for River to be a bit more subtle in nudging Jayne into action -- somehow saying just the right thing to prod him into noticing Kaylee's problem. As it was, she pretty much just told him to go help Kaylee.

One thing I did notice was several places where you used the Commonwealth spelling of "defence" for "defense". It caused my American eyes to stumble a bit, but arguably it's reasonable that some British influence would linger in the 'verse.

Now, feel free to read and critique my one and only fan fic (so far)... fair's fair!

Really good start! You gotta keep on writing--(so i can keep on reading--I know thats harder on you than on me --i'm shameless!) Hahaha! Mine is an evil laugh! Don't know why but i could not post a comment directly after your Fic--i kept getting an error or something. :)
