OK, folks. I just know that Static isn't the only military Browncoat on this site. But since no one seems to know what other ones there are, tells us a bit about yourselves: what branch? Duty station? Where ya been recently?

Myself, I'm in the U.S. Navy. I'm attached to the Navy SEAL Teams, in Coronado, CA. I got back from a tour in Iraq not too long ago where I saw such garden spots as An Nasiriyah (where Jessica Lynch was captured/rescued), An Numaniyah, and Baghdad. Before that I did a tour in Afghanistan, located at Kandahar International Airport, affectionately known as KIA.

I am in the Air Force currently in New Mexico. Had many trips the last couple years to the AOR. Lots of sun. I occupy my work time being a heavy junk mechanic.
On the board here, I lurk. I am eagerly awaiting the movie and hope it goes back to a TV series.

I spent 5 years in the Navy myself, 4 of them on the USS Independence (cv-62), an aircraft carrier. I was on from 1987-1991 and we were the first Navy carrier to respond when Iraq invaded Kuwait in August 1990. The ship was just a cpl days from arriving at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean when we were ordered to the Persian Gulf. We cruised the Gulf of Oman as part of Desert Shield for 110 days, then the USS Midway took over and we were home by Christmas. We wound up staying in San Diego during Desert Storm. Soon after it was over I got out.

I was a junior officer, LTjg... and worked in the Operations department. I stood watches on the Bridge and in CDC (Combat Direction Center, CIC is on smaller ships).

And just a little trivia... they filmed Flight of the Intruder on my ship... the actors ate with the officers. They we all pretty cool. I discovered I'm the same height as Willem Defoe.

Anyhow, even though I'm not currently active duty, I remember what it was all like and I still feel a part of me is still out there with all you guys who are pounding the ground, aiming high, or hitting the high seas.

As a DoD civilian I have worked for the Army Materiel Command for fifteen years. I have mainly been around the eastern US (Benning, Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Picatinny Arsenal), but was once deployed to Haiti. The only thing I haven't done is tote a weapon. I consider myself a green civilian.

"We are exporting democracy because we have all of this unused democracy lying around at home. Why not make some money doing it?"

. Headed out for my first deployment in less than a month. Wish me luck! It'll be an easy one tho, except for the time away from my family, as I am headed to Cuba.

I run the commo section for a MP EPW/CI (Military Police Enemy Prisoner of War/Civilian Internee, for you non military types out there) battalion.

TROOPER

Retired AF Reserve now. While on active duty got to SEA in the early Seventies on a long TDY. Spent the rest of my time bouncing around the states (NM, NY, HI, and OH) mostly tracking satellites. Left active duty to attend graduate school using the GI Bill. Now doing the same work as a contractor (the pay is a whole lot better).

Rob, are you in the Ohio Reserve? My sister ran a POW camp during the first gulf war (and wonders why we didn't just do it right the first time instead of throwing away lives now - but I digress). Anyway, aren't there just two battalions that perform this specialty?.

Also, I spent 10 years USAF. I was an Aircraft Technician and spent those years on F-15s, F-111s and F-16s. The husband spent 22 years as an electronics technician. We're both Browncoats.

Do veterans count? If so, I was in the US Army, 75th Ranger Regiment from 1987 until 1995. Proudly served in Ops Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

I too am a veteran, Army, Psychological Operations, Ft. Belvoir, VA. Been out four years now since having children.

BUT my husband was a ranger also, he served in the 1/187th Inf out of Fort Campbell before going Ranger in 1994. He got out in 96 to become an officer, can you believe it? He went Green to Gold (name of the program, I didn't make it up) and now is a Captain in the National Guard Field Artillery in Colorado.

I have to also say that our hearts are with those deployed right now and here's to wishing them a safe return. My husband just returned one month ago today.

Was gone eleven months. Life is good. Husband home and we have a shepherd!

They died to rid the world of a psychotic dictator with dillusions of grandeur. They died ridding a nation of an oppressor. I was there. I saw them wave at us, smile at us. I saw children shouting, "USA, number one!", and men chanting, "Yes, Bush!" Don't you dare tell me that my fellow servicemember had their lives thrown away. The pap that CNN feeds you doesn't inform you. You don't know what they're doing over there. Until you acquaint yourself with the reality of what we accomplished in Iraq, don't you dare presume to tell me that we're throwing our lives away.

I swore I wasn't going to get into a huge blow-up about politics and war ethics, so I won't respond in kind.

I will answer only the question of when this opinion was stated.

Eve, my beloved little sister, who suffered from some horrible desert sand bug that tried to turn her insides to mush -- she who was medically retired from the Army after suffering horrible injuries which took her three years to recover from -- it was she who WHILE STILL IN KUWAIT IN 1991 phoned me to ask, "Why aren't we finishing this? Why aren't we doing this right. When we have to send people in 10 years from now to finish the job, I'm going to ask George Bush 'why'.

It's not 20/20 hindsight. It's not the BS handed out by corporate owned, government teat sucking media. It is the stance I took during the first Gulf War, which I supported even though all we were doing was protecting our oil producing butt monkeys from our oil producing former butt monkey.

I supported that and wondered why we didn't finish the job.

We encouraged the Kurds to rise up. We said we'd help them. Instead, we watched as Saddam crushed them underfoot.

At the picnic welcoming Eve and all the rest of her guys home, they all stated that they knew we'd have to go back and that when we did, lots and lots of kids were going to die needlessly because we could have finished Saddam off when momentum and the world were on our side.

Inevitable: Elements of 2/7 were with 1/7 at LZ XRay for the majority of the action. The rest of 2/7 and part of 2/5 reinforced them during the action and relieved them at withdrawel of the original attacking force. The actual after action report from the incident is available on the web at http://www.lzxray.com/documents/aar-xray.pdf

When I was in 2/7 they never talked about that action which was a shame since B Co. 2/7 aquited themselves extreamly well acording to the after action report. (I was in B Co.) All they wanted to talk about was Custer and his damn horse Trigger.
