Caught the first commercial I've seen for Drive last night during a commercial for...well it doesn't really matter what I was exactly watching at 8:00 on a Tuesday. He was only in the promo for a few frames but had the angry-Mal look and might have just punched someone.

Is this a good thing for FF/Serenity - what does everybody think?

... I'm in.

Yes, it could be a good thing. Anybody who sees DRIVE and notices the charisma of Nathan will then be inticed to go see what else he has done. In so doing, that will lead people to Firefly and Serenity. That means more sales of the DVDs.

It also makes him a bigger star. He is more noticable and recognized on a larger scale. The more a person is recognized, the more fans they have...the more fans they have makes them a bigger star. Bigger stars get offered better roles.

One thing to remember, Serenity had no "movie stars" in it. It had great actors, but no "A" list stars. "A" listers can pull in a bigger crowd...example would be Harrison Ford's last movie. When you have that kind of star power it is a given that whatever you are in will make more money. So, Universal, who holds the movie rights to Serenty and the next 2 sequels can add in Nathan's star power to any potential earnings for any further projects.

We should want Nathan's "DRIVE" series to do well and get him some recognition. It helps him, and it's noticable by studio execs as seeing him as a bankable star.

That is also why I would love to see Morena Baccarin as Wonder Woman. Makes her more bankable if the movie is big...and *most* comic/superhero movies are big enough to give their primary actors much recognition.

On the flip side (though I don't think Joss would do this to us), if Nathan becoming a bigger star leads to another BDM, the powers that be might want the focus to be mostly on him, at the expense of the other characters. And while the movie did focus more on Mal, I think the Firelfy/Serenity verse works best as an ensemble piece.

All in all, Nathan's new fame can either be a curse (for us), or a blessing. Either way though, I'm happy for him.
