Goodbyes. This would be painful for me, under different circumstances. Words exchanged and embraces, pitch-colored bags being carried by the gunwoman, some tears seen just below some of the crew's faces. I nodded to her once, as the burly merc said something that sounded both fearful and reverent, and the two shared a comrade's handshake.

"Watch for the spearheads, the headhunters. They'll take you quick," River said warmly, hugging Fly with an unabashed remorse. This comforted me some, seeing emotion in both of them.

I sighed, uneasy at the diminishing crew on the ship. I had a bad feeling about this 'job' the crew was to pull on Lilac, the sort of feeling that makes you wake up in the middle of the night sweating, with no memory of what gave you such a fright. I'd have to accompany the crew on the job, make myself useful.
