Firefly and national security

As I was browsing fanpages today, realising how many people actually love the show it strucks me as kind of odd that it was cancelled. Then I considered that Firefly came out shortly after 9/11 in a time when America was epecially vunerable to critism against the regime. Now from a euorpean perspective its kind of obvious that there is a resemblence in The Alliance and the present US goverment in how they view their task. IE Creating a brave new world with a seamingly good agenda but with means that are sometimes pretty far from democratic values. Fox being the Bush friendly super patriotic TV network might have considered even Firefly a threat to national unity and security and hence pulled the plug.
I am a new born browncoat so I have no clue as to how the discussion goes, but is there anyone else that has made this conclusion? It would explain why they are so reluctant to relaunch the series despite public demand.
