Hey-

I'm kinda a newbie to the Firefly 'verse, so I need this explained to me: when exactly does Shadow get distroyed during the war? Was it closer to the begining of the war or towards the end? The info on the Firefly Wiki is a little confusing.

Unfortunately I don't think there's any source that tells us exactly when Shadow was razed. Somebody told me a while back that the bombing is referenced in the Serenity RPG book and that it was done "to teach the Browncoats a lesson". The RPG book and the Wiki also state that it was one of the first planets to stand up to the Alliance. Given that, my scientific wild-assed guess would be that it happened around the middle of the war, p'raps a little earlier.

As far as I know, it's never been established at what point in the war Shadow was destroyed. If you're working on a FanFic, that probably means you can place it whenever you want.

The Serenity Visual Companion says, in the 'brief history' section, quote: "Malcolm Reynolds was on Shadow, living on a cattle rach his mother ran, when he joined up. He was a smart kid but green. He joined out of belief and nothing more. Five years gone found his homeworld destroyed, his army beaten down, and every shred of belief ripped out of him. He had made Sergeant by then, of the 57th Overlanders."
So Shadow was destroyed before Serenity; that's all we can tell for sure. My guess would be it was not long before, though.

Thanks for the info everyone!

Yes, I am writing a fanfic, btw. I'm thinking of calling it "You Can Never Go Home Again". So keep an eye out for it, please. Since there is no definite time that Shadow was destroyed, I'm gonna have to use poetic licence and have the destruction of Shadow where I need it to be for the sake of character development.
