BLUEMOONSTUFF

Any Deadwood fans out there? I've been searching around for a decent forum for Deadwood and just haven't found any that come even close to that of Fireflyfans.net

I guess Haken has spoiled me for the rest of the Verse. FFF.net is truely unique in it's offerings of content and layout and of course, the folks who use it.

So, any suggestions as to where I should look for a half assed Deadwood forum site?

Yeah,

Being a fan of Firefly I was immeadiatly hooked on Deadwood, as it is a Western. I don't get to watch it that often though.

Hahaha! Mine is an evil laugh... Now die!

I watched a couple episodes of deadwood, but they screwed up the dialog. They curse like they were New York mafia. Maybe I need to give it more of a chance, but aside from the soundtrack (which is awesome), the show seems pretty mediocre to me.

I love Deadwood! Can't say why though- I don't really like any of the characters. It's the same with the Sopranos- I want tham all to get whacked, so I have to keep watching just to see it. The show likes to think it's revelling in moral ambiguity (i.e., wise and superior), but I'm not sure that's how everyone sees it. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it though. I also think that when pretty much everyone is just a totally despiccable person, it's more compelling when the little bits of goodness come through. You more strongly root for Bullock because he's just about the only halfway decent guy there is. Swearingen is perpetually bad, but you get jerked back and forth on just how bad he is between various episodes (e.g., sob story of childhood while getting a BJ). Awesome writing anyway. I wish they'd done more with Wild Bill, though. Hoopleheads! 8-)

I love Deadwood

Here in New Zealand we were lucky enough to have the first two series run back to back.

Deadwood has great writing with incredible characters, Ian McShane deserves all the kudos he has received; Swearengen is truly an original - not to mention fascinating fellow.

I don't know if all the dialog is authentic, I've seen comments which note that certain combination of *terms* used in the series were not in use, (well, not in *that* context ), during the 1870s. Maybe the writers were more concerned with capturing an authentic cadence with the dialog, the dichotomy of flowery Victorian with the short, sharp and extremely profane.

Perhaps the writers had to use terms which have the effect on modern audiences that “damn” and the like would have had on the Victorians.

I’m certainly looking forward to the third series to see what happens to the fragile alliance between Swearengen and Bullock.

BTW: got to love the names – Swearengen certainly does *swear* and Bullock is certainly *bull*headed

To answer your question - no I don't know of any decent Deadwood forums

INDIGOSTARBLASTER

We just finished watching the first season of Deadwood on DVD a few weeks ago. I thought it was great, but every time the theme song came on I got a pang of homesickness for Firefly, sharp enough to hurt. The sound of the fiddle and guitar made me think of that pretty ship lighting up in the black, with all the warmth it was holding inside.

I hope, even if it takes 20 years to revive Firefly, they bring back the original cast. I'd love to see how they all grow up.
