I'd watch a firefly animated series at 7:00 on scifri friday. Why not its cheep for SciFi channel Joss can "tell thier stories" and the fans are happy.

What's wrong with this idea?

I know....Can you imagine a Firefly Anime....that would be killer. (Bagsy the Title "Firefly GO!")

Although you've got to remeber that Joss tried this once with Buffy and it feel flat on its face So he's properly not willing to try it again so soon.

As much as i'd absoulty LOVE to see it (i'd quit work if they showed it on a Sturday), another bad factor is that animation also takes time. LOTS OF IT!!! And the better the high quality, the longer the time to create an episode.

The best chance would be a Group of Browncoats getting togther and doing it as a fan project. There's the technolagy out there to do it (Macromedia Flash for instance), and if they had the time and the resources it would be possible.

Still we can dream can't we *goes of to play with toy dinosaurs*....

I'd started working on something like that, called Serenime...

It's was huge amounts of work though, and now theres a fan project using live action and an almost identicle premise.

So I gave up .

DESKTOPHIPPIE

Some would say there's one out there already. It's called "Cowboy Bebop".

*runs away very fast*

Seriously though, a Firefly cartoon could be a lot of fun, and the Batman cartoons showed that there's a viable market for more "serious" adult animated series. I'm not so sure if it's where Joss & Co. would want to go, though, since they seemed to want to make the show a lot darker than it had ended up being. Most American animated shows end up being quite kiddie orientated.

I know a Buffy animated series was very seriously considered, but fell through at the last minute. Which is a shame, as the animation samples looked great.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I personally wouldn't enjoy it as much. I like live-action. Nothin' against anyone who likes anime or other more serious cartoons, I just don't dig it. I firmly believe that actors are better than pixels, and I would miss seeing the actors. And I know there are things you can do with animation that you can't do live-action; but face it, it works the other way, too. You think River's ass-kicking would look nearly as cool if it weren't an actual actress doing it? Not me.
I would watch it in my desparate need for more story, but I would prefer a living verse.

CYBERSNARK

Well, not all animated fight scenes are *punch*kick*character gets thrown about like a ragdoll* There are some really well-animated fight scenes out there (relying on actual fight choreographers and martial arts experts), even in American shows (Avatar's magic-using martial arts are based on actual katas).

And they can get plenty dark (even in NorAm: Roswell Conspiracies, Invasion America, Gargoyles).

As an alternative, how 'bout a CGI show, a la Roughnecks: Starship Troopers? The fight scenes would need a bit more work than cell-animé, but the visuals would be a might better (especially if done by Mainframe, who did Roughnecks). Plus we could use the actual actors for motion-capture.
