Any psych majors want to do a study: "This is your brain on Firefly"?

Maybe this is silly, but, as great as the show is and with all the things I can point to that make the show great, I can't quite understand what it is about Firefly that causes this level of addiction. I've read countless posts here from folks saying they've never experienced addiction like this, and that's been my experience, too. I've loved plenty of shows, but nothing close to this. In fact, the shows I used to love, I'm not much interested anymore, 'cause they're not Firefly! Other favorites of mine just pale in comparison.

So, what I want to know is, is there a psych major out there who needs a study subject and has access to brain imaging equipment or an EEG machine or something and could look at what happens to the brain of a fan watching Firefly? I wonder if it mirrors other addictions in brain activity. I wonder how it would compare to the brain activity of fans of other shows. I suspect Firefly might be at the top of the tv-show-addiction bell curve.

This is something I'm very curious about, and thought I'd just throw it out there.

I know! I've never done this either!

There's a post further up the board on a guy looking at FF fans for a TV Crit class. Try him.

I am like that with Lost too. It's so addicting to me I have to watch it the same way I watch Firefly.

Maybe we could get Simon and the gang to sneak you into the neuroimager in St. Lucy's on Ariel...

I've seen this thing being described as "like crack" but, never having tried crack, I can't say whether or not I agree.

I think a big part of it is there are so few. The show was cut just as it was hitting its stride.

Practical knowledge said we're not likely to get more, but we did.

Now that fans know it's possible, it's rekindling the fire under old fans and creating a whole bunch of new fans.

"I also hear that there's something called Firefly, which is either a canceled science-fiction television show or a new religion, I'm not clear on that. Either way, prayers for the resurrection are involved." – Lore Sjoberg
