Comic Outreach Program

The continuation of the 'verse for Firefly, Buffy, and Angel fans currently resides primarily in the realm of comic books. So, while we wait for their resurgence on television or film, let's seize an opportunity to reach out to a new audience and join the International Comic Arts Association's Comic Outreach Programâ„¢.

Spreading the 'Verse

The Whedonverse Multimedia Project was established in May 2004 after the television series Angel left the air marking the last Joss Whedon creation to grace our small screens, that is, at least for now. Our mission is simple: bring the world's of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly/Serenity to those who may not have yet discovered them. We accomplish this by donating the DVDs to public libraries, military units, and charitible organizations.

If you'd like to help, please send us a donation so we can provide DVDs to the libraries on our waiting list or contact your local library directly and arrange a donation to them. If you do donate books or DVDs directly to a public library, please enter it in our online tally so we can keep track of the organizations that have benefitted from your generosity.

While donating DVDs has been the primary focus of our project, this month we're launching the Youthful 'Verse campaign, which seeks to provide young adult materials such as comic books to youth organizations. ICCA's Comic Outreach Program provides us with a means to achieve this objective.

About the ICCA's Comic Outreach Program

A major portion of the Comics Outreach Programâ„¢ is directed at young readers and their parents. Through this program the organization stresses the importance of reading, and the value of the comic book in making reading fun and exciting for children while also helping to spark their imaginations and enhance their creativity. Through this program, the ICAA is able to distribute comic books and related products to a number of outlets where people of all ages can appreciate, learn and enjoy them. These include; schools, children's hospitals and pediatric wards; after-school programs; boys and girls clubs; and other youth organizations. Additionally, the ICAA distributes comic materials at live events such as festivals, fairs, community celebrations, school functions, concerts, sporting events and will use the holiday gift-giving season for enhanced promotions through the ICAA Seasons Readings Program.

Another major focus of this program's efforts are toward getting more comics material into the nation's library systems. The organization is actively working toward getting some of the most valuable comic works and collections into school and public libraries nationwide. These include graphic novels, trade paperbacks, anthology works, comic art history books, comic art technique books, archive editions, and comics on microfilm added to their collections. With these efforts the ICAA hopes to help encourage many library systems to continue to purchase comic related works for their libraries in the future by introducing them to some of the more valuable material currently available.

A message from the executive director:

Yes, the ICAA is thrilled to receive donations of any and all comics! The organization distributes these books through a wide variety of outlets and organizations to readers of all ages, including adults. The ICAA screens all of the books that we pass on to make sure all are age-appropriate to the group or organization that they are going to. We would be most appreciative to receive any and all items that you would like to donate and you can rest assurred that your donation will be put
to good use.

Thanks for your support-
