The original plan was to have two sets of announcements this week regarding the Can't Stop The Serenity proposal that Browncoats organize charity benefit showings of Serenity around the country over the course of 2006.

One, I had intended to announce the specific information regarding who would need to be contacted by any interested groups to obtain the public performance rights and/or a print of the film (unnecessary if you'd be projecting off a DVD instead).

Two, I had intended to announce the date selected via a couple of online polls to target for a proposed set of same-day nationwide showings all to benefit Equality Now.

That first announcement is in a snag period, while I get some things sorted out. In discussions with three different entities, some confusion has arisen as to just what sort of public performance these benefits would qualify as, and getting someone to give me the final word on that will determine just which company or companies Browncoats will need to go through the get the rights and/or a print of the film.

So that announcement is going to have to wait a bit more, because I don't have the questions answered just yet.

But the second announcement I can make now, in the meantime, even though there isn't anything you can do with the information until I can make the first announcement.

By a vote of 57%, the date of June 23 has been selected as the date for interested Browncoats to target for same-day nationwide screenings of Serenity to benefit Equality Now.

June 23 is the one-year anniversary of the third and final special advance screening of Serenity in the U.S. -- and also is Joss Whedon's birthday.

As I said, there's not much anyone can do with this information until I get the public performance rights issue sorted out. But I said I'd have something announced by today, so I've gone with half of what people need instead of continuing with none of what people need.

This information will be posted to the Can't Stop The Serenity website, and cross-posted to other relevant forums.
