Aside from River, what character is the best fighter?

...and by 'fighter', I mean hand-to-hand fighting. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I never saw it, and besides... now that we've had a little time with our Serenity DVDs, might be time for round two, eh?

So what say you? The Operative? Jubal? Mal? Zoe?

Shepherd Book. And it's because he's the silent deadly weapon, especially if we go with the theory that he was once an operative. However nowadays, he would not use his skills for anything but self defense and defense of those he loves. So most people would see a gentle Shepherd and think nothing of it, and move in for an attack and then POW!!! Book strikes outta nowhere.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

From a stand point of the BDM I would say that the Operative is definitely second seeing as how he kicked the crap out of Mal twice in the movie. Of course Mal being to stubborn to quit saw him through in the end.

Well, the operative is the best fighter knowledge wise, other than that Mal is because let's face it he fights REALLY dirty. I mean Mal wouldn't of had a chance against the operative if the nerve group hadn't been destroyed by shrapnel, (which I would like to mention was awesome).

I think if you take away Mal's tremendous ability to get his ass kicked and keep coming back, he would be way down the list.

Obviously "the operative" would be the top character after River but, I would put my money on Inara as most skilled melee fighter and Jayne as one of the best in general in a fight without needing a hospital after.

Zoe is good but, seems more about gunfighting(perhaps Jayne too). While Book seems to get taken unaware too easily. Maybe in his day... :). The rest of the crew...well, lets leave them out this fight.

I'm suprised you guys aren't putting Jubal Early higher on the list. He dropped Mal much quicker than The Operative ever did, and River seemed to feel that nobody on the ship had a prayer of beating him in a stand-up fight. ...Does that seem right to you?

Oh come on, Jubal caught everyone off guard, he got lucky with Mal and the only other person that got a chance to fight him was Simon. He might not be that great. And once again if not for mal not having the group of nerves on his side, then the operative would of killed him.

Also, let's just face it mal will always find a way to win, simply because he is a smart and dirty fighter, wether it's hitting you when your looking away (atherton, sorry for poor spelling) or putting a sheet over your head (operative) he will always beat you.
