Okay, well I thought about this a while ago, but then it suddenly popped into my mind again the other night.

In Chosen, when the First appears (as buffy) to Buffy the night before the big battle, when she can't sleep, and the first says "She alone will have the strength and skill to- There's that word again. What you are, how you'll die. Alone." and that's what gives Buffy the idea, to share her power...with the potentials. The idea that won them the battle.

In Serenity, whilst the crew are on Haven for the second time in the movie, Mal is on the bridge. The Operative appears on her screens and him and Mal talk. And The Operative says "You're not a reaver, Mal." and Mal has this flicker of an idea kinda flash across his face. The Operative gives Mal the idea to make it to Miranda. Guess it's just a Jossian thing to have the enemy plant the idea in the "hero's" or heroin's mind.
