Now that I've seen most of the episodes - a friend and myself had a little Firefly marathon showing :o) - I'm extrememly disappointed in the marketing/advertising campaigns done.

From what I recall before the show came out, all of the TV ads just talked about a ship with a diverse crew that included a whore. Period. I mean, that was enough to make me think it might have potential, but if the ads had come close to even hitting upon what Firefly truly was, there's no way I would have missed the original airings.

I mean this show touches upon so many things near-and-dear, and, in order to catch the attention of new, prospective fans, I think some of these things should be mentioned (in a Metatag/Google-able way) somehow in the fansites.

Another thing (again, from what I remember,) the ship was in atmospheric sky in the slices shown in the ads. I don't remember much space, which kinda made me think that it wasn't going to be what I've been wanting to fill my "Star Trek: TNG" void. How can you have a space epic that DOESN'T SHOW THE SHIP IN SPACE?! Hell, all it took was a 1 second look at the graceful Andromeda ship model against the backdrop of stars and nebulae before I knew I'd at least give that show a chance. If you really and truly love Andromeda, you would be floored by the Firefly series. Again though, this was another connection that I was unaware of way-back-when.

One thing that puts this show ahead of Star Trek and Andromeda is the "independent" state of the Firefly crew who seem to be living paycheck-to-paycheck. It's like this show brought to life the "Wing Commander: Privateer" games which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Another thing is the epic sweep of the storyline. The basic universe is as interesting and has as much potential as the universes of Rodenberry as well as Lucas. Nothing would have been able to stop me from being glued to the TV *IF* I knew that this crew would be tangling with diverse locales and quirky locals, an ever-present military/government threat, poverty, internal strife, impending critical mechanical failures, and boogeymen (Reavers).

Also, what happens when you place into close-quarters: a priest, a gorgeous prostitute, an assassin, a schizophrenic psychic, a fugitive doctor, a loving inter-racial couple, and the guy in charge used to be a soldier who is still bitter about losing a war to the current government? I would have tuned-in to Firefly every week to find out! But, again, this was mentioned nowhere in any advertisment :-(

Any of the above is how I wished I would have heard about Firefly 3 years ago. But, we can still spread this type of info now, so ... just my 2cents for the webmasters of all the fansites.
