So I was rewatching "Safe" for like the 12th time and it struck me when River repeats what kaylee says while she's tied to the post. "Post holer. For digging holes, for posts."
What do you guys think is the significance of this? Is there significance. I always thought that River's choice of words was VERY deliberate. It makes me go hmmm. And I'm not entirely sure myself why she would choose those words, other than the obvious. What do you guys think? Also, are there other poinant moments that you guys wanna talk about? Other significant lines that don't catch you at first?

Well, she was tied to a post. I assume that is what you mean by "the obvious". Perhaps she was being ironic.

when they have the cattle out there is a movement in a bush. And then Mal calls Simon "Doctor". Today i realised this the first time.

River has a habit of repeating certain things that Kaylee says. "No force in the 'verse can stop me" and, "Post holer. For digging holes, for posts."

Well, considering that Simon didn't even know what the postholer was for, I doubt that they really grasped the concept when she explained it. But by the time she's tied to a post she gets it. It's just Joss' way of saying, "Look at how fractured River's mental process is." I can just hear her: "Tied to a post. How exactly does one get a post in the ground? Oh yeah! Post holer! It's for digging holes! For posts!" All this while Simon is hollering at the Patron and she's being lashed to a post...just thinking about digging holes and non-progressional evolution theory.
