I recently purchased Season 1 of Angel on DVD (using a gift certificate I was saving) and while watching some of the episodes over the weekend, I thought of something.

Select to view spoiler:

In the episode Eternity, a fading Hollywood star drugs Angel with some type of drug that induces bliss in order to get him to turn her into a vampire. This state of bliss brings out Angelus, albeit, temporarily. My question is in Season 4 when the crew is battling the Beast and they decide to bring out Angelus they chose to remove Angel's soul and put it in a safe place, why did they not just drug him up? Perhaps they were being influenced by evil Cordelia? Perhaps Angelus would have known it was only temporary and not helped them (not that he was all that helpful anyway).

Any thoughts?

A much more likely explanation is that the writers simply forgot about it, just like they forgot other bits of continuity from that episode. If you watch "Soulless," you'll notice that

Wesley makes this big deal out of how he must now face Angelus for the first time and he's doesn't know if he's up to it and yadda, yadda, yadda; when in "Eternity" he was face to face with Angelus and managed to take him down with Cordy's help. It's like the writers simply pretended the episode hadn't happened; no doubt to increase the impact of Angelus' return. But since the whole thing with Angelus was part of the redundant and unnecessary Beast subplot, I prefer to use the same technique and pretend this whole sequence never happened.

As for in-series explanations, this is definitely one to blame on Evil Cordy, since the only explanation that makes any sense is that the Beast and Angelus were there to distract the Fang Gang from the real danger (Jasmine). Also, I suspect that with all the Apocalyptic stuff going on, the gang were rushing from decision to decision without really thinking things through. By that point, they probably felt as if they *had* to do something drastic like bringing back Angelus and didn't bother to think things through. I guess what I'm saying is that Evil Cordy wasn't using mind tricks on them, she was just playing them the old fashioned way and they made easy pickins.
