Should have pulled a BSG circa 1978?

I was thinking... Joss should have pulled a Battlestar Galactica before the BDM. As I remember the original BSG aired on TV, then a few months later they redid the soundtrack and made the pilot a movie and released it on the big screen. Now granted, that was 1978 and movies were a little different back then, but I think it would have been REALLY cool to see the 2 hour Serenity TV on the big screen, even if it was just a midnight movie in select theaters. That would have generated alot of attention and possibly DVD sales.

I'm thinking that the pilot was a little too tame and thoughtful for the theatre going public.

But in SENSURROUND! Now THAT could've made it theatreworthy!!
And make Serenity's engines not only mess up the Reavers, but start a chain-reaction and blow up the whole planet!!! Now we're talkin' box office....naw.
