What the heck though, we're number one!

That said, transfer the numbers across to the US BO and its still the same opening weekend figures really.

And let's not forget that being #1 has another effect - it makes everyone stand up and take notice.

I've been telling most of the people that I work with to go and see it, don't know how many will or how many will buy a downloaded bootleg copy of it, fingers crossed they go out and watcg it on the big screen.

'If nothing else works, a total pig-headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see us through.

"Really, interesting, really strange, really good fun... grown up, smart, satirical, sci-fi with heart. I was really pleasantly surprised by it." - No 1. UK film critic Mark Kermode. The review get's quite funny with an argument between Kermode and over the word 'enterist' which Kermode calls it. Lovely stuff. There's a review of Oliver Twist before that, and of Nightwatch after that if you're interested, and a fantastically amusing slaughtering of 'Ragtail', an unutterably poor film. You can download by MP3 or stream through Realplayer. The Serenity review starts at 26:20 minutes-ish. There's also a direct link to that section on the site, methinks, but if you love film it's worth listening to it all.

His movie of the week? Serenity! Yay! And he'd never seen Firefly before!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/arts/frontrow/index.shtml

Radio Four Front Row's Art's Show (a national treasure) has a review and a look at Serenity, the first item in the half hour show. It's the Thursday edition on the links. This one is realplayer only. The ladies love it thankfully - "almost a moral parable for our times," - "I've slept through any number of Star Wars films, but this..." - "darkness mixed with amazing humour." It keeps cutting out and reloading on my connection, but it's worth persevering with!

So the establishment loves Serenity! Yay!

And it's No.1 in the UK, double yay!

First of all we do a top class new series of Doctor Who that everyone from kids to critics (apart from certain hard core Whovians) loves and now we embrace Joss's latest! The question is, will we do a Jimi Hendrix*? He was ignored in the US, came over here, became massive, and we sold him back to you! Muah ha ha!

(*Probably not, unfortunately, but at least I have a deep love for glorious, wonderful failures)

"If you can keep your head whilst others... eurgh! Ack! I've spilt my ink! Ugh! Ink on my trousers! Agh! Ink on my shirt! My only hope! The window! Aieeeeee!" (Falls to death)

I've been talking up the movie and TV series at work. Went with a coworker to see the movie she loved it. Someone else went with his family and they all loved it too and he plans to get the series on DVD.

ah ok, apologies for repeating this thread in another thread, but i'll repost it here and let the other one die now :D

---------------------------------------------------
Hi all, I'm new here and almost completely new to Firefly, my girlfriend only introduced me to it this weekend, and I love it!!! The disappointment at finding out that the show was cancelled after only 14 episodes was overturned by the joy at finding out that the film of the series, Serenity was released here in the UK on Friday...which I managed to watch yesterday and ADORED! ^_^ And to top it all of, it's #1 in the UK Box Office!! See the BBC link :D

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4331654.stm

I've already dragged 2 groups of friends to go see it...*pats self on the back* and am lending my dvds around as fast as i can! Too bad, W&G - Curse of the WereRabbit is coming out this week....Serenity knocked Pride&Prejudice off the top spot for the first time in 4 weeks, but I don't think it can hold vs Wererabbit :(

It's been getting rave reviews though....if anyone wants to download the mp3 of Mark Kermode's (famous UK film critic) film reviews, you can go here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/entertainment/kermode.shtml

Although the mp3 download is only available till Friday (when it'll be replaced by the latest weekly show). But you should be able to listen to the Serenity review via webstreaming from the Archives. Serenity was his film of the week!!!

There is hope for fans of intelligent film-making! Sorry if this has already been posted, but I just wanted to share my joy, and say hi. ^_^

Goose
