I've noticed a lot of posts saying that the film would have done better being released when it was originally scheduled back in April. But since they had "rough cut" screenings all summer, would the film have been ready by that date?

I was under the impression Joss was putting his finishing touches on it through most of the summer. Would it have been rushed and "imperfect" in April? I know Joss is used to working on a deadline, so I'm sure something would have been in the theatre, but do you think the extra time gave him the chance to perfect his film?

I think it would have done poorly in April because it was scheduled to come out around the same time as Star Wars. Also - they had more time to tweak the film and do lots of cool marketting over the summer.

I saw a rough cut in early February and it was most of the way there already. It easily would have been finished by April if that was what they were gearing up towards.

However when the timeframe widened, suddenly they could do things at a much more relaxed pace (time is money after all) and therefore the cuts put together for the US previews weren't fully done.

I agree though that we might well have done better in April, particularly as that would have meant a completely different marketing strategy. Damn you Nicole Kidamn! I sentence you to another marriage with Tom Cruise.
