I went to see Serenity yesterday...just because it was raining and it looked like an above average sci-fi movie.

I went in to see a movie. Nothing more. I left a believer. I left there just shaking my head and grinning. How could I not have caught this show? It's amazing! It just "gets" sci-fi and what it's all about. It doesn’t take it self too seriously.

It, in all honesty, was the best movie of the genre I've seen in over 5 years. It's not some over-blown, self-important space opera with bad dialogue and an over reliance on digital effects (you know who you are...).

Rather, it's a vision of our future that is funny, touching, and all together a kick-ass ride. I loved every single character…every one of them. And I think that nameless alliance assassin was one of the best bad-guys in film today (sorry Maul).

I am going out this week to buy the series on DVD. Please count me among your ranks. I think this show is pure gold.

welcome! and I should link your post to the thread who feel that the movie has flopped...
because clearly it is reaching an audience (slowly but surely) who were not Firefly fans first.

You are in for a treat w/the DVDs

and get the comic books (Dark Horse put out a series of three Serenity comics to bridge the gap between Firefly and Serenity)

Welcome here, we're weird.

I haven't said that in ages. More seriously welcome to our ranks. It's good to have someone else enjoying what we enjoy and sharing that bond that's hard to explain in sane sounding terms that comes from being a fan of the same thing.

You come at a time that is both wonderful and traumatic for a couple of reasons.

On is that you just witnessed the resurrection, damn we do sound like a cult. Trauma comes from both painful things you saw in the movie, and less than what we hoped for at the box office.

People have been going on about how it is the best film since the original Star Wars Trilogy, and these people were professional film critics, yet out numbers are mediocre. (At least they aren’t bad.)

So you’ve come at a time when you can really help, bring other people to theaters and convert them, watch it again (and again), stuff like that.

But most of all enjoy it, we may get a sequel, we may not, but we already have our series, and now we have a movie. Enjoy what you’ve been given because you might not get more.

America loves a winner!

I find it hard to put into words how happy I am that you 'found' SERENITY. I was one of those hopefully skeptidcal folks who looked toward FIREFLY as something......different and worthy of my attention. I had only just begun to fulll appreciate the whole Buffy/Angel world. I'm not much a fan of the supernatural,...vampires, werewolves.etc.. Still, I gave it all a chance.

Firefly was way different. And yet, not so much. I had no idea....well, I'll spare the diatribe..I had SOME idea, but no where near the complexity, the depth and the whole ......its just fun to watch - thing I was getting into w/ Joss et al.

Welcome to the 'verse after the Earth that was. We're glad you came aboard. Enjoy the ride

Don't have to take no oath nor exam, don't have to sign no papers, to become a Browncoat. Just watch our backs while we watch yours.

If you're like most of us, you'll watch through the DVDs and then be furious there's no more. Be ready for that.

Meantime, we're glad to share our favorite 'verse with ya. Just be sure to keep an eye on Jayne.
