Jason Palmer, his wife Yelena and I were talking at Dragon*con. He was mentioning how he’d like to get the license for Official Artwork but it's not cheap. I thought about how generous our community of Browncoats are and thought maybe I’d take it you the forums, the fans, you.

See, no one yet has the official License for Official Serenity Artwork, but the wheels are turning. The companies who are interested have a history of, well, bad art, as they try to get away with the cheapest art (and it shows) and then sell it for hefty prices of $300-500 per print. With Jason doing the art, we know that we will get the best, because not only has he already shown his talent, but he loves the show, loves the movie, and has been a loyal supporter from the start , helping out with promoting the show, spreading the word, and donations to our cause. Long before the big masses joined in, and definitely long before the licensing companies decided Firefly and Serenity were worth the investment. And in light of the recent artwork used on the comic book covers and such, there is a need for good artwork, great artwork in fact, including both composition and likeness of the characters, which Jason has already shown he can do. Everyone will be happy. We want good artwork out there to support and promote Serenity. Us fans are a strong force; ultimately, we are the ones who made it all possible, and as the movie is great, so should be the official artwork.

The hitch is that it costs approximately $12,000.00.

So, the proposal is this…

If folks would donate $10.00 (via paypal) towards the license, Jason is willing to give $15.00 off for those investors towards artwork. His prices will be very reasonable, as he is not one to gouge the fans and has a history of donating prints to the browncoats.
Anyone up for the challenge?

If we can raise money to send a fellow Browncoat to a con, couldn’t we raise enough money to help Jason and Yelena get the official license for Serenity Artwork?

If we’re able to raise even Half of this it could make the license happen.
