With the film coming out is there any chance of fox or scifi picking up the series and coming up with some new episodes.

No. Fox has a firm grasp on the rights to new episodes for what is generally believed to be 7 more years. Joss and the cast are committed to doing films and, if successful, Serenity will spawn a trilogy. A return to TV is not in the forseeable future.
