Ok I know Serenity ain't out till Oct. elsewhere here in the UK, but here in Edinburgh unless you knew where to look you wouldn't even know that in less than a week the film premieres. Hell, even in the cinema you can't see a mention of it unless you look at the back of the film festival booklet. No posters, no trailers and absolutely no floating chandeliers!

Is it just me or is anyone else worried that this very shiny film just ain't getting the general attention it really deserves? Isn't the premiere amongst other things supposed to drum up interest - as far as I know no-one outside the fan communities (and yes that now includes my folks) seems to have heard of it.

Fox torpedoed the series, I'm just hoping the film (and sequels... please!)get a decent chance.

Oh and how many here am I going to be bumping into in the cue on the 22nd? Sound off!

Best £7.95 I'm ever going to have spent.

I would desperatly love to see Serenity early, I'm not seeing any screenings or anything. But I'm stuck here down the south of England so...
Hope you enjoy, and post any details and I'll send in the monkey Nija's!
Its truly disturbing that little mention is made of the film, but I'll be dragging (kicking and screaming if necessary) all my friends/familly to the opening of serenity down here!

The film will be fine, we just have to spread the message, you know...

Q: What do you have when you are holding two little green balls in your hand.
A: Kermit's undivided attention.

What's the point of advertising a sold-out premiere? The only reason anyone generally pays attention to such things is if there's massive star power in the movie, which, I hate to say it, there isn't here.

The release isn't for 6 more weeks. Longer, in some parts. There would be absolutely no reason to start running ads for a movie that doesn't open for 6 more weeks because in 6 weeks people will have either A) forgotton about the ad they saw a month and a half ago or B) grown sick of the continuous campaign to drive this movie down their throats.

Yes, we're all eager and we all want to see the BDM succeed. But, come on. There's some new post every week claiming that Universal needs to do something more. How did we get here? Nobody gave this fanbase one ounce of credit. There were trolls galore telling us we'd never even get to this point, but we have. We've shared this wonderful show we've found, and that's what we need to keep doing. Ask not what your movie can do for you, but what you can do for your movie. Hype it up. Tell all your friends. Tell your enemies.

That being said, Universal has had a lot of successful movies in the past. I think they might just know the best way to get people into theatres. They might even pay people to do stuff like that, I don't know. I trust them to do their part, because, in the end, they and we both know the fan base isn't strong enough to support this movie on its own, and I don't think they're in the business of trying to lose money. Trust them.

I can see where you are coming from regarding the Universal marketing machine and yes I bet they do know what they are doing - My point is that without the general TV release in the UK there is almost no general public awareness and the fan base here although highly vocal (and so it should be!) is still quite small so any opportunity to get a murmur of interest going should be grasped.

Edinburgh at the moment is jammed packed with tourists at the fringe and other festivals and yet it seems that Serenity is not worth even something small like a banner or poster on the outside of the hosting venue (Currently its still got the huge banner for Mr & Mrs Smith there!) in order to get people thinking about the film. I just hate a wasted opportunity that’s all.

On another tack, Browncoats - check the Edinburgh film fest site - another showing has been put on. This one is on the 28th Aug. and available from the 22nd.

Oh and lets be nice to the box office folks - I think the're still shell shocked from the Browncoat induced server collapse!

Best £7.95 I'm ever going to have spent.
