If you saw Serenity, what do you think about this? Shepard knows so much about the alliance.. he has a special access, etc. Well, remember in the first TV episode, he says to Kaylee(spelling?) that he was away from the world a spell? Now think back to the bad guy in Serenity (the assassin.. forgot his name)He had all kinds of power within the alliance. Shep seemed to know "how" they were going to come after Mal and the gang (from the side he said). Now, think about the last conversation Mal had with the bad guy. If I see you again, I will kill you myself. and he replies that the senate or whoever knows he is not their man anymore and that no one will see him again.

So, he is disappearing from the world. But, he probably has some kind of benefits from the alliance or why not expose them on some level for casting him aside OR why not just kill him out right? So, do you think that Shepard an ex-assassin??

I asked Ron at the Austin screening and he just smiled and said "that's an interesting thought".

Anyway, I know this has been discussed before but with the Serenity out now, it is time for speculation.

I strongly think Book is an ex-Operative.

I really think The Operative's part in Serenity is really an explaination of Books past, basically. Think of the The Operative as how Book used to be - faith in the Alliance...

ZEEK

I'm just gonna mark this all as a spoiler.

One possibility that I think is really cool is that Book is The Operative.

Book somehow finds a way back from the future in order to protect River and get the signal out.

This would explain why he's looking at ships. He probably only remembers a little about his time hunting Serenity. So, he's looking for the ship that he was after. When he finds it, he knows that it's where River Tam will be and the key to his salvation. Sorta crazy that it would also mean he ordered his own death.
