“ At the time of this writing, Firefly has reentered the Amazon digital streaming charts, where it currently sits in 18th position on their list of Top 25 TV Shows in the United States (per Flix Patrol). If that wasn't enough, it's also in 15th position in the Apple TV store as well. That might not seem very high, but when you consider the series is nearly 25 years old, that's a lot of people purchasing digital copies of it to enjoy at their leisure, when they can instead readily watch it with a subscription to Hulu.”

Make sure you actually download a copy of the show to your own computer if you bought it. If the service does not allow that, pirate a copy of it for yourself if you've already purchased it.

Otherwise "at your leisure" only means until they remove it from their service and refuse to give you the money back because the fine print of the contract you signed but didn't read when you clicked "I Agree" gives them that right.

Digital content services (Amazon, iTunes, PS Store, Funimation) have removed user-purchased movies/TV shows multiple times without refunds due to licensing agreements. When platforms lose rights or shut down, users lose access, as purchases are officially "licenses" rather than owned copies. Specific examples include Sony/PlayStation, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Disney/Hulu removing content.

Key Takeaways on Digital Content Removal:

- No Ownership: Purchasing digital content often only grants a limited license, not ownership, making content vulnerable to removal when licensing agreements end.

- Affected Services: Major platforms like Amazon Prime, PlayStation Store, Funimation, and Flixster have experienced incidents where content was removed from user libraries.

- Examples: In 2018, Apple users reported deleted iTunes purchases. Sony's PlayStation Store notified users it would remove previously purchased Discovery content.

- Refund Policy: In many cases, no refund is provided, as these removals are technically allowed under the service's terms of use.

Whenever I come here via public computer, I search for it using a search engine, usually Yahoo or Duck Duck go. I do this to help train the engine to see the results of this site are desired from "firefly" or "fireflyf" - and then I open about 4 or 5 links.

Lately, the hits resulting in this reveal news span pages and pages of results.

I noticed for quite a while my Google trick for searching for text within a website stopped working for fff.net. Probably for at least four or five years now that's been the case. It sucks because with all the threads that get buried under mountains of necroposting, it was a great way to bring up old threads you were looking for without manually having to go to page 50 to find them, as long as you knew enough somewhat unique words that would have been used in the conversation to filter out the results to only 10 or so threads. I used to use it all the time back around the time that JO was still posting here and maybe a year or two beyond him leaving for good before it stopped working altogether.

Surprisingly, after Haken "fixed" the site last month, I'm able to do it again. It doesn't work as well as it did years ago and it can't find stuff that I know it should be able to find, but it doesn't come up completely blank anymore either. What I mean by that is even when I'm not able to find the specific thread I was looking for, I can still get several pages worth of Google hits on other threads that had the words that I was searching for in them.

This site has always been searchable on Google by people without membership, which is a relic of Web 1.0 and probably not ideal. But I wonder what happened under the hood to get this functionality back when Haken was able to cobble the database together enough to keep us flying, even if it's only working half as good as it did before.

I wonder how hard it would be to create a new FFF website with a service like Wix. I don't believe that anyone can sign up with a fresh username here anymore and we lost that ability years ago along with the PM-to-email functionality. It would be kind of cool if some old people come back if they somehow managed to remember their login information, but if there's actually a new Firefly property that's worth holding onto, it's a shame that anybody who lost that info will be locked out and we can't bring new fans here unless major renovations were made under the hood.
