Hunter S. Thompson -- writer, iconoclast, free-thinker, 'journalist' -- was found dead today of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, at the age of 67.

So long, Hunter. May you have a little less interesting life, next time around...

Respectfully,

zoid

Yeah, I read this while perusing through WitchVox this morning and sent the link off to friends and compatriots, one of which was inspired to journalism in part because of him.

Ehg, this sucks. But while Spaulding Grey’s leap into the New York River had a certain terrible pathos, this is as a blunt and ironic (is that the word I want?) ending as HST could’ve forged.

I read a lot of his stuff, can’t say that I liked all of it, but it had guts. Saw him speak once at my college, crazy fucker brought a gun with him.

I used to be confused, now I'm just not sure.

SIMONWHO

I think the most ironic death for Hunter would have been an accidental overdose on medically prescribed drugs but this does seem appropriate. He always lived the way he wanted to, not according to how the world dictated, and now he's died the same way too.

GORRAMREAVERS

I always think of the NFL Films interview he did. It started out OK...him talking about meeting Nixon and talking about the Redskins. Then he 'packed and smoked a bowl' and got a shotgun out and kept looking out the window. Did the rest of the interview with a shotgun in his lap....odd.

"..it is my very favorite gun."

YT

the movie is not the Series. Only the facts have been changed, to irritate the innocent; the names of the actors and characters remain the same
