As you probably know, Joss is coming to San Francisco soon:

http://www.comic-con.org/wc/index.shtml

As organizer for the local SF group, I want to encourage (beg? coerce?) any Browncoats in the general vicinty to think about coming to our meetup on January 8th, during which we will hash out what we can do to make the con as fun as possbile for all Browncoats, and make Serenity as visible as possible at the con.

http://firefly.meetup.com/101/events/3819577/

I have also recently created a yahoo group, which gives us a bit more flexibilty in organizng projects, so again, if you're local, please do check it out.

http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/sfbrowncoats/

and even if you're not a local, but you are thinking about attending the con, or are just willing to help some novices figure this stuff out, you can also check out the group to give your 2 cents about our plans and make your own suggestions.

Thanks in advance for everybody's help!!!!

(on a side note - patay & Malsgal ROCK!!!!!)

If you should get a fan table at that event, let me know. I'd be willing to send you a small care package of nifty handouts and small prizes.

Shiny!!! Thanks, Dave!

The number one order of business at the meeting is to decide whether or not we can commit to a table for the con. I will get back to you as soon as that's wrapped up.

Have you been to many cons? Any advice?

xie, xie!

We (The Chicagoland Browncoats) have done Capricon twice and are planning to do it again this year. Capricon is a smallish type Con event. We've only done party rooms thus far. Worked well for episode viewing the first year. The second year, attendance was down for episode viewing although we won for best themed party room for our Blue Sun theme.

We also did Wizard World Con - Chicago. Pictures of our fan table setup and some who stopped by: http://www.shindigified.com/ww2004/ww2004.html . I had put together a lot of items to hand out; gave away almost all of them over the course of the convention.

IMO, I don't think room parties work well for mass recruiting as compared to fan tables. Ideally, I would think it would be nice to do a fan table to help with the mass promotion during the day and then have a room you could refer people to during the evening if they wanted to try a couple of episodes before committing.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like you guys had a blast. We would LOVE to adopt whatever handouts you have left. I'm already beating the bushes for stuff for our (hypothetical) table, but I'm sure there's always room for more. We'll be sure to credit your group for its generosity.

That's what I'm thinking. We've already got a room booked for the con, but I feel that a table will be MUCH more visible.

So... was Chicago slammed with snow over the holidays? I was in Ohio for xmas -- the snow just wouldn't stop! Glad to be back in CA. :)

Yep. Wizard Con was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, Joss stopped by our fan table at a really inconvenient time. (Most of our group were elsewhere at the time.)

>We would LOVE to adopt whatever handouts you have left.<

Don't really have any left over from that event as I sent the Wizard Con leftovers to DragonCon. But have a few calendars that I'd like to use up since they started with Oct 2004. And I can print some more cards.

Your best bet for flyers is to visit: http://the11thhour.home.att.net and download some of 11thhour's posters, print a b/w master of each, and then have the master duplicated onto colored paper at a local copy store.

>So... was Chicago slammed with snow over the holidays?<

Not sure. I live closer to Milwaukee, WI. It was rather mild around here for most of the holiday. Dec. 30th I took out the trash wearing shorts and a fall jacket; temps were in the low to mid 50s for a couple of days. Yesterday, almost lost my balance as we had freezing rain. It supposed to be more like Winter from now on.

Yeah, I have...way way back when. Maybe a good 10-12 years ago. TimeCon 1990 I think was the last one I went to.

No, wait, I went to an early X Files con in Vegas back in '95. :)

Wow! so you're a veteran of this game.

I'm not sure where in CA you're located, but a bunch of us are getting together in SF this Saturday to discuss the con. If you're interested, let me know!

San Jose. Doubt I can make it Saturday, though, I've a big pile of essays I need to grade before the semester ends.
