Actually I do not think they will air Firefly in Germany since I am pretty sure they won't dub it for the mayority of german viewers and it is very rare that they air something in english.
(Although Premiere did so with Season 4 of Farscape, that was such a joy :D )

I really fear that the german voices they use for the dubbing will suck and prevent the movie from being a good success here in Germany.

I wonder what voices they will use.
Anyone got any suggestions what voice will fit what character?

Alan and Adam already had "german voices" in other movies, I thought they where ok.

But what about the others?

I really hope they will show Serenity in the undubbed version in theatres here in Germany as well (happens more and more :) )

Gavida

Just out of curiousity (living in Canada and all)...
If the theatres aired it without dubbing, would they have German subtitles for the very few who don't speak English in Germany?

Whenever I watch a German film with English subtitles (eg. Das Boot, Das Experiment, Lola Rennt) I'm always drawn to reading the English instead of trying harder to understand the German (I've only been studying it for a year and a half). Do you find yourself in the same boat when English-language films have German subtitles or is your English good enough to pick everything up without defaulting to the subtitles?

Mal: "May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one."

When they show movies in the theatres undubbed it varies with the german subtitles, some have them, some don't.

I try to avoid movies that are in english and have german subtitles, since the subs distract me from the movie.
Most movies are dubbed here anyway, sucks sometimes with the jokes, since they don't work.

I prefer watching my DVDs without subtitles, I started to love the english language at the age of 16 or so when I got two bookshelves with english books from my former english teacher. After getting into it I started to listen to BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Services, the only english radio station I can get where I live) and some time later started to watch movies in english.

If I really have problems with understanding the dialogues I turn on the english subtitles on the DVD. Doesn't distract as much as the germans, since I do not have to "switch" languages in my head :)

Now I am using english for about 20 years and I am still eager to get better. I am not satisfied with my knowledge so far, but I think I can survive, although I only listen to english and read/write, but rarely have a chance to speak it. I have a horrible accent I fear, probably close the the typical germans talking english in those old warmovies:

Ve Haf Vays to make you Tok!

Oh, and I use a really bad mix of british and american english when writing, sometimes I use words like "color" and "armour" in the same sentence hehe And I really try to get "ain't" into use more often now, wonder why....

Keep flying,
Gavida
