I love CTS's sociopath post!!!

Niki I know you have step children and so don't you care about them and their progeny? (I don't know if either of them have progeny, but in case they do). I'm sure you do, so the statement that since you don't have kids you aren't directly concerned is flawed. But I think we all have to do what we can as you said to keep things doing well as long as possible.

If the world falls apart I'll be taking myself out of it, because I wouldn't survive in a "post apocolyptic" world and I already know that, I carry no allusions. So here's to things staying good for a while longer, because I'm not ready to die yet.

NIKI2

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

The only single person going into further generations that I know personally is Jim's granddaughter. Of course I feel for her, but I feel for ALL those who come after us and will suffer what's coming because of our stupidity. I don't feel any direct connection with Jim's daughter; he goes to visit them and I rarely go with. They wouldn't be caught DEAD here, and avoided doing so enough times with enough poor excuses that we got the message and don't invite them anymore. They are yuppies; everything in their livingroom (including the rug) is white, and they bought paintings because they "matched the decor". I care about Lisa (Jim's daughter) and think her daughter is amazing--she's very talented and at only 16 is well on her way to becoming an actress. But I don't feel personally close to them, and mostly only see them when we go to one of Megan's plays.

I'm far closer to his son, who shares a lot of our values and is a real animal person, loves dogs, has rescued cats, and despite the hellish years we endured with him, is a very sensitive, smart, neat guy. But at his age I doubt he'll ever have kids.

Actually, I just thought about it--there is one other person, if she ever had kids. My half-brother gave up a child in his first marriage, she hired a private investigator and found me some years ago. We corresponded briefly, but Bob was dead by then...she suffered from depression (thereby validating my belief that genetics were involved in my own bipolarity) and lives in New York. But that's all the contact we ever had; once she knew Bob was no longer alive, I don't think she had any interest in pursuing communication with me. So I guess that's the last of our "blood line", which is probably a good thing.

Essentially, I'm terribly sad for all who follow; I don't need a personal connection to hurt for them. I weep for them all.

Tit for tat got us where we are today. If we want to be grownups, we need to resist the ugliness. If we each did, this would be a better reflection on Firefly and a more welcome place. I will try.
