SO... Iran has a drone... based off a one of ours got splashed.
Huh.
Is it just me, or am I smellin' advertising here.
What can Iran use a DRONE for? Antagonize Israel & get themselves all melted?

Anyone know or have a theory as to what's goin' on?

But not HERE. They have no delivery platform. Obama can okay such fucked-up shit with near impunity. If Iran deploys them (which I am highly doubtful they have the technical capability to do) they just make themselves a SERIOUS target for Israel to blast on IMO. Which is why I think it's for show & bluster rather than real utilization.
Am I being naïve here ya think?

GEEZER

Keep the Shiny side up

Anyone seen it fly?

Hell, Chris, based on the models you've shown here I bet you could make something that looked like a drone given some foam blocks and a set of wheels.

I could. Easily. Full size, half size.... as long as I had some Rustoleum paint (product plug).

Well, there's drones and drones - for pure recon purposes, you can bag a Walkera LBV2 for under $200 retail, and buy that bastard right off the shelf - and once you have the Devo F4 control box, replacing a lost or fragged drone is even cheaper.

Mind you, they're lying about that "easy to fly" part, the learning curve's a bitch.

Here's a demo vid of someone testing one.

In the hands of someone clever, surprisingly useful in both a conventional and a military sense, and badguys can be every bit as clever, like casing a theft target with it, or even terrorists plotting a strike - there's also that the damn thing is TINY, doesn't make much noise, and if you land it a position to observe something, like a building corner or car roof, it makes NONE.
And that's the el-cheapo commercial product, unmodified.

On the homebrew front, you have drones like the VF Sumo Quad, designed to be damn near indestructible and capable of even soaking up shotgun blasts.

And the same team has already rigged paintball marker "armed" drones.
Ain't no harder to rig real weapons, particularly unguided rockets.

Or if you don't care if you get the drone back, half a pound of C-4 and a servo trigger is simple enough for any amateur to rig up even in a hurry, just sweep the drone in close and kerblamm - and with an FPV rig, the "pilot" could be anywhere within about a 1/4 mile, or more with a range booster... and if you wanna amp the paranoia into real horror ?
Multiple bomb drones.
After the first one goes boom, switch on the next, mate it to the controller and send it on it's way - hell, with pre placed stocks of rigged drones in multiple locations, ONE GUY could hold down a fucking batallion with such a setup.

Yeah, sure, yon multimillion dollar, super huge Predator class drones get all the noise and attention, but the tech *itself* is far, far, FAR more dangerous in potential than any use of it so far, from the big bad bogeys down to potential poison dart drones no bigger than a fly.

But every sword has two edges, the tech can be used to benefit mankind too, everything from search and rescue, to the downright mundane.

The FAA threw a hissy about this at first, but the tantrum throwing control freaks lack the authority (so far, and thankfully) to meddle with commercial use drones - which is a DAMN good thing given the absolute ruin they've made of the whole light aircraft/ultralite thing, long story short, they prettymuch obliterated it by making rules lists hundreds of pages long no human could ever comply with, and demanding so much mandatory equipment while limiting engine power, to the point where nothing with that equipment could even lift off the ground with the allowable engine power....
So no, you don't want them "regulating" drones.

Anyways, if a foreign power wants to build or use drones, ain't no stopping it, THAT genie has well and truly fled the bottle, so it's better to acknowledge and deal with this reality instead of ignoring it and pretending they can make it go away - which is what our lawmakers are currently doing... remember, these are the same morons who gave us the "War on (some) Drugs", and how's *THAT* been workin out, neh ?

They could be anywhere.
They "see" everything.

They're going everywhere, even as we speak.
