The touching story of Larry Stewart.

Quote:

This is an incredible, almost unbelievable story about a former homeless man. And yet it’s true.

This man later made a fortune and gave away $1.3 million of it to strangers in need. His name was Larry Stewart and if you’ve never heard of him, it’s because until late in his life, he handed out his money anonymously, often a hundred dollars at a time.

He has inspired other Secret Santas, who have inspired even more.

Here's the latest story I heard of a Secret Santa.

And then...

Quote:

Postscript: The day after the story aired on 24 Hour News 8, another secret Santa went to the Plainfield Kmart and offered to pay off 13 more layaway bills — to the tune of about $2,000. It was the largest layaway payoff in the history of the store.

It is nice to see that good things are contagious too. :)

Heh, I've never had the resources for that, but I have been known to make peoples utility bills go away when I've had the opportunity to do so.

My sister busted me on that one last time I visited, I figured she knew who it was but never said nothin till then.

My husband sometimes leaves quarters in vending machines. He says people get so happy finding a free quarter when they check for change.

Nothing wrong giving luck a hand, eh? :)

I like this guy. I've done this at times when I'm in the city. It really makes a difference in someone's life if you can give them a decent chunk of change. I've had people say to me that what they really needed was enough to get cleaned up to go to a job interview, with some second hand clothes and a good night's rest. Problem is, when you get homeless, you stay skanky, and it's hard to get work when you're skanky.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Indeed. A horrible vicious cycle.

Creative microphilanthropy. I love it.
