I've been told... haven't had much time to think about it... that almost everything that Cheney.... er, I mean Bush... is pressing for right now is to keep from being indicted later. In other words, retroactively legalizing what used to be illegal.

And what he can't legalize, he'll shred.

Investigations into the destruction of a CIA torture videotape have forced the Administration to speed up the elimination of all related evidence of wrongdoing. Since shredding was progressing too slowly, Cheney's staff were forced to burn records wholesale to avoid a massive number of indictments. Fire broke out in the Old Executive Office Building next to White House when staffers failed to contain the conflagration.
