Gee, if ONLY someone had said this sort of thing is what would happen if marriage was redefined.

The world's only 'married' lesbian threesome are expecting their first child.
Doll, Kitten and Brynn, from Massachusetts, were joined together in a marriage-style ceremony last August and are expecting a daughter in July.
Kitten, 27, is pregnant after undergoing IVF treatment using an anonymous sperm donor, and the trio eventually plan to have three children - one for each of them.

If only we could have known...

Oh, wait. We DID!

The third member of this "marriage" is not legally wed to either of the other two. She was "handfasted," which can count as a legal marriage for two, but not three people.

Whether multiple marriage partners should be legal or not is another discussion.

There has been nothing stiopping people living in a variety of relationships, including multi partner, multi/single gender. the only issue is really about its about what happens legally with these kinds of relationships? DO we need the law to recognise any kind of relationship?

Working with the people at the end of relationships, this one would be a mighty complicated one for the kids if it all ended in tears. Let's hope they can make it work.

Doll, Kitten and Brynn Young married in a ceremony in August 2013, when each of their fathers walked them down the aisle. All three women wore white wedding gowns and exchanged rings.

The so-called 'throuple' worked with a specialist family lawyer who drew up the paperwork and drafted the ceremony so that all three of them were obligated and bound to each other .

While Brynn and Kitten are legally married, Doll is handfasted to both so the threesome are as equally married to each other as legally possible.

Your initial post sounded like scorn and derision.

Maybe you were just pointing out the whole "this is gonna complicate things" angle, but it sounded bad.

I wish everyone were as free to do as they pleased (*disclaimer* in a positive way). World might be a nice place. Long as they are good parents, is all I care about...

And I sincerely doubt this is a *first. First public maybe. They're gonna wish they hadn't gone public in a couple weeks, when the death threats start and they have to change their cell numbers a half dozen times....

There's a reason PUBLIC sounds like PUBIC... you will probably get screwed by it some way

He's pretty ridiculous, isn't he? There is no legally recognized three-way marriage involved, and his attempts to appear non-judgmental are pathetic. But he's sure got you going.

I guess it's a good thing you guys have Rap...what would you do without him to trigger you into responding to him? What would HE do without this place--he must spend hours and hours here getting your attention every day...

Few years ago, " same sex " marriage wasn't a thing either.

Now it is.

It's funny that some ignore the WEDDING which took place, and the happy THROUPLE ,as it's being called, with their rings and such.

' Nope, didn't happen! NOT MARRIED ! '

OK.

That there was such a push to redefine the meaning of 'marriage', that no one stopped to think that it might not end w/ just same sex marriage, but now will include polygamy as well.

Who are we to deny 3 people from sharing their love with each other.

Or 4. Or 7. Or 2 people and their dog.

Article says all three are married, there was a ceremony which married all 3, 3 rings were exchanged, and yet you want to deny them the ability to claim they are all married.

Why can't you reppect their wishes ?

No less ridiculous than allowing gays to marry, right?

Of course I'm right. Some just can't come around to admit it.

CA voters chose to make marriage 1 man + 1 woman.
The courts overturned the will of the people.

Why can't a court also decree that 3 or more consenting adults can marry each other?

It's got nothing to do with whether I recognise it as a marriage.

People can live in whatever unions they choose, barring ones with non consenual or illegal sexual activity. Where I am, there are no legal limits around multiple sexual partners, or gender with regards to sexual activity, although incest and bestiality are illegal. People can celebrate their unions in a non legal manner, as these women do, by a variety of ceremonies. This union is not currently definied as a legal marriage.

So again, it's hard to work out what your point is because of your miserable failure to articulate meaningfully?

Are you asking if posters would support poly union marriage being made legal?

If posters morally support poly union relationships?

If posters support bubba having three mums?

C'mon, Magons, you know perfectly well what he's up to. He dissed gay marriage because it would lead to all kinds of other "bad" things, and we made fun of him and called bullshit. Now he's trying to say "see, I was right!", which of course he wasn't, but as long as you play along, he'll keep it up.

Just as you said, people can form any kind of "union" they want, even WITH their dogs or cats or whatever, that doesn't make it legal. Anyone can "recognize" whatever they want, has nothing to do with legality. HE HAS NO POINT. End of story.

I love the childish attempts at insults ( for no apparent reason ) almost as much as I love how oblivious folks here are about the posted story.

2 are married, and the third is as legally bound to each of the married partners as can be managed, at this time. Why ? Why bother w/ legality and such, when, as y'all commonly say here, they could ALREADY go through what ever ceremony they want!

BUT DON'T CALL IT MARRIAGE !

( even though the posted story, and the actual 'trouple', describes it exactly as that - a marriage )

Is none of this sounding even the tiniest bit familar ?

Gay couples can have a civil union, w/ the LEGAL benefits of straight married couples...

THAT'S A MARRIAGE! You BIGOT!!

So, this THREESOME isn't a marriage ?

And it apparently offends some to even TRY to call it that.

Which is exactly what all 3 of them wanted.

So....you're against legalising gay unions then?

Basically the question people should ask is - do we want the law to reflect how we conduct our relationships or do we want the law to limit them?

As far as I'm concerned marriage has nothing to do with the law. If people say they are married, I don't run off and check to make sure its a legal union. I simply don't care. And if people want to have marriages that consists of more than one partner, can't say it's my business nor does it need my approval.

The purpose of the law is to decide what happens when the relationship ends, that's why marriage and law got mixed up anyway. Basically it was about property, making sure there was a clear rule for when death, and less commonly divorce happens. Well all that's about as complicated as you can get these days anyway.

So right now when I live there is no legal difference between being defacto (common law) and married. So why bother having a legal defintion at all? You have law that can set down some common property principles when relationships end. Children's matters don't rely upon any marriage principles.

People can choose the ceremony of their choosing to celebrate their relationship whatever it may consist of. If people want to marry for limited times, so be it.

The legal definition in Australia

"Marriage means the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life."

Mind you, this definition was only added about 10 years ago, to preclude gay marriage if you can believe it.

But lets look at it - 'exclusion of all others..." Does that mean adultery is illegal? Nope, in fact there are NO consequences for straying from the marital bed.

'voluntarily entered into for life' Not for half those who enter into its sacred space who terminate the relationship before death.

What about those people not 'legally married'? At an estimate, about 15% of couples are not legally married. In reality, its probably higher.

So the legal definition of marriage is an outdated concept that no longer reflects how we live.

You need to deal with it and get over it.
