Looks like you guys are taking the lead on this one:

"The diplomatic focus now seems to be switching to the UN Security Council, with speculation that it may vote on a draft resolution on Syria in the coming days - although Russia still opposes the move.

The council met earlier this week to discuss the document drafted by Arab states, the UK, France and Germany."

That's going to kill the price of vodka at your local Tesco.

Nothing like a good war in an election year to shore up one's position in the polls.

But I'm sure we can fully expect Code Pink, MoveOn, Worker - Communist Party, etc... to actively mobilize and hold massive rallies against military action.

Right ?

We might take the lead but it's election year, you guys will want to get in on the act so you can take the credit later (if things turn out well, otherwise it's another European failure).

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Somehow, in little Rappy's little brain, the list of countries actively involved - "Arab states, the UK, France and Germany" - means it's a political election move by Obama!

The Arab states, the UK, France and Germany are for intervention. Russia is opposed. China hasn't weighed in.

It's interesting to see who lines up with who. Though not in this case, England tends to line up with the US. Europe tends to line up with Germany. Europe and Germany tend to oppose England and the US. China tends to line up with Germany. Russia is a wild card.

What drives all this is who has a deal with who for oil development and sales. In general, it's countries waging war in support of their petroleum corporations and supplies.

It will be interesting to see how this eventually partitions out. That will elucidate if this is about oil or something else.

War ramps up in the middle east, in an election year for US Presidency, and we're suppose to believe that the US won't be involved ?

Sure...I'd buy that.

Maybe people are finally - 3,000,000,000,000 USDs later - sick and tired of war and it would be a bad thing to get involved in one before this election? I'll bet you 10 shiny pennies we don't get involved... much.

I don't mind sanctions and stuff, but I don't want us getting into another conflict over there.
