Any plan it puts out still has to be voted on and passed by both the House and Senate, then signed by the President, so I have no problem with it.

I don't like it, but I agree with Nick. I thought it was "Super Committee"? Is Super Congress a label pundits are putting on it, or is that what it's actually called?

I hope they wear capes. That makes sci-fi geeks happy. Everything's super if you put a cape on it.

Someone needs to measure SuperCongress' approval rating.

Nick, my problem with it is that if "any plan it puts out still has to be voted on and passed by both the House and Senate, then signed by the President" and that doesn't happen, it triggers either a Balanced Budget Amendment OR an across-the-board cut of huge proportions. Otherwise I wouldn't give a damn, but it's set up as a game. As I wrote before, all the TP and GOP have to do is refuse to agree to any kind of compromise, and the trigger kicks in. So they win either way.

The whole "balanced budget amendment" thing is a myth. Congress can pass a bill SAYING that this or that will trigger it, but first they'd have to pass an amendment changing how an amendment gets passed in the first place.

What I'm saying is, you can "trigger" all the amendment BS you want, but none of that addresses actually passing and ratifying such an amendment - and the votes just ain't there to do it.

So by all means, Congress, bring it to the floor, vote on it, watch it die, and then shut the fuck up about it for another generation.
