Sorry, but I doubt this one is the "most likely to contain life", just because it's a rocky planet instead of a gas giant. A rocky planet practically inside the heliosphere doesn't sound like a very hospitable place at all!

We continually limit our perceptions of "life" to what we know of Earth (as I just have above). While that might make things easier as we go exploring, we really should remember some of the surprises that have sprung upon us just from within our own solar system. In fact, I'd say the "most likely" places to contain life not on Earth are in fact right here in our galactic neighborhood.

I'm all for looking elsewhere, but we really should be doing some more detailed exploration nearby. Start with Europa, Mars, and Titan as the most likely candidates we've seen so far.

But we should also bear in mind that we really know next to nothing of "life" and what it means or what forms it may take. We are as a dog looking at a zebra - all we know of it is that it's "not us", but we can conceive nothing more of its nature than that. We know "us" and "not us", and we're not even sure about either of those concepts.

America loves a winner!

Amazing find. It adds to what we know of how to find planets around distant stars, ( which is fraking amazing ) and expands our knowledge of what exactly DOES form around distant stars.

I'd call this a win/win, regardless of it being a planet of molten lead.
