They leaked some excerpts from Bush's book. He writes that on 9/11 he gave the order to shoot down airliners to prevent additional attacks and that initially they thought the plane in PA had been shot down from that order.

I think after 9/11 the 'shoot down order' is a given. But I think the man must have felt a personal horror at having to make that call and then additional horror at having thought it had been done. Like Bush or not, I hope we can all feel sympathy for what he went through that day.

Except for the crazytalkers who think it was all a work...no sympathy from you is needed.

Unquestionably...few Presidents have had to go through such awful things, which memories they will always carry with them. Actually, I have sympathy for ANY President, I think all of them carry around a lot of weight the rest of their lives. You just have to look at how being Presidnet ages people to know it's a helluva burden, whether they were a good or bad President. Bet it's a shock and not what they expected, either, any of them, and wonder how many of them REALLY wanted that second term, deep inside...

Yeah, they can be un-self-aware enough, like Bush, to want it consciously, or power-hungry enough like others, but I'll betcha subconsciously most, if not all, of them wanted to run away and hide after four years!
