I think they're a bit late on the draw, honestly.
Dunno about the sexbot thing, but behaviorally and conversationally, the Actroid DER2 is in a class of her own.

Of course, most human-like robot development is still stuck in Uncanny Valley, and it has a ways to go...

But I kid you not, the very first time I saw a clip of Actroid here, I happened to be munching on a small plate of brownies and my *first instinct* about 20-30 seconds into the clip, was to offer her one.

The whole idea of sexbots gives me the wiggies cause I do have a prudish streak, but then I thought about the badly disabled or horribly disfigured...

That and I am pretty sure that while maybe less willing to admit it, most of us have some "could it possibly be worse than..." stories we'd never dare share too, don't we ?

Anyhows, the folks down at Sanrio (and yes, Actroid is made by the same folks that make Hello Kitty) deserve some serious cred in this biz for making a robot that manages to provoke an "awww.." reaction rather than "wtf?!".
