There is an islamic equivelent, and it seems to tie in with the the fundamentalist tenet that you should not make "graven" (whatever that means) images of any type of living thing, so they consist of a word rather than images.

(I'll leave aside the fact that all these fundy muslims all seem to breach it with huge posters of Ayatollah Khomeni and various suicide bombers. OK, so they may be dead, but they were alive once.)

They find the word "Allah" in the patterns of fruit when cut open, such as tomatoes and aubergines... now, I can't read Arabic, but these squiggles look different each time, so they can't ALL say "Allah".
It could just as easily say "shrubbery" for all we know. Now why can't they adopt a sensible unambiguous alphabet?
