Political mudslinging or just a oops moment.

Here within the last month I have noticed a weird thing. Barack Obama has been getting nailed broadside by everything lately. Is this a new kind of pathetic political mudslinging, or bad jokes and typos gone wrong.

They link him to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by the way he dresses of all things.

They make a fuss over his middle name of Hussein, which is probably the most pathetic of all of these.

To CNN's accidental typo of his name during a segment about Osama Bin Laden.

Starts to make you wonder after a while if all of these are just coincidences.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

One "oops" is a mistake but too many "oops" moments equals intent. I've heard right-wing talk-show hosts say "Obama-Osama-Obama-Osama". One can only hope that by 2008 the wind will have been taken out of that sail.

It's an indication that he's suddenly "important." It's one the things that happens to you when you get in the media gaze, there are people that want to build your profile, because the more people you interest the more folks watch TV or buy newspapers, and theer are folks trying to pull you down for many of the same reasons.

This is true of anyone in the public eye even folks doing things as trivial as sports or entertainment. Add a political angle and you have a ton of other people on both sides trying to define your image.

I agree with you on this subject. Anyone who is seen as a threat to power instantly becomes a target from all sides. Barrack Obama has presented himself as smart, savy and appealing to many people. That definately leaves him open to attack. I'd say look for more rather than less "mudslinging" and whatever else comes with it.

Unfortunately, it's the name of the game (sad but true). He'll have to learn to handle it. That will be the true test of his mettle.

I like him - hope he hangs tough without becoming one of the mudslingers himself.

You may have heard right-wing talk radio host say it, but they weren't the first. It was the bumbling buffoon from Mass,Senator Ted Kennedy, who uttered that freudian slip , back in Jan. 2005, in the 1st place.

There's a difference between a freudian slip because 'Obama' is similar to 'Osama' and 'Osama' is always in the news, and actually linking 'Obama' to 'Osama' as a political attack.

But then again here we go again.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I remember when ... Mondale (D) was running against Reagan (R). On the front page they had a picture of Mondale giving a speech. He happened to be gesturing with his hand and they caught one snapshot at the right time and angle that - even though his hand was a couple feet away from his face - it looked like he was digging in his nose. Guess which one they ran?

This kind of editorializing isn't new. And neither is the more overt kind. Heroic poses rather than unflattering angles and the like.

Keep the Shiny side up

Given the success of the "Macaca" moment, I suspect that there will be squads from both sides out as the next election draws close, just trying to provoke a response they can get on tape and drop into the youtubeverse. Glad we don't have to worry about that "issues" an "platform" stuff any more. Just vote for whoever screws up least on video.
