Yes, let's see... according to this apocryphal story, suicide works when you're on the battlefield face to face with an opposing force and FURTHERMONE have enough BACKUP forces to on-hand to quickly take advantage of the psychological moment! AHA! YES! I see the relationship between three prisoners committing suicide and this story!

One has to wonder- Geezer, why izzit that a smart man like you clings to stupid arguments? Believe me, it's not a pretty sight!

(Or maybe... is Geezer's arugment a rhetorical re-enactment of the Gitmo suicide pysops, meant to leave us puzzled, distracted, and quite frankly a little disturbed as we watch a formerly respected intellect flush himself down the toilet? )

Were the Taliban "Unlawful Combatants" when the US was funding them after the USSR (remember them) invaded Afghanistan?

How about the Viet Minh fighting for independance against nasty French imperialism.

And the Irish Republican Army, terrorists funded by US (Noraid) money?

Unlawful Combatants is a term that is too loosely defined!
