UPDATE:

About 1 week after I posted this, I got three more similar calls, all spoofed semi-local numbers, regarding a similar but not quite the same scam.

I pressed 2 and said the same thing to them and it's now been about a month and a half with zero scam calls.

These people might be some of the lowest of the low scumbags on the planet, but they're in it to make money. If they know that you're onto them, they will very quickly remove you from their lists of people to call. From what I've learned on scambaiting channels is that these outfits are in constant communication with each other regarding these things, and they actually help weed out bad leads in an "I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine" sort of relationship.

I think they're all working off the same list, but what probably happened here is that some outfits update that list less often than others do or at a different time every month, and my getting called again a few weeks later for a different scam must have been because they were still using an outdated list from the previous month that hadn't had my name purged yet.

Too bad our Government can't purge voter lists with this level of proficiency, huh?

It would keep a lot of dead grandparents from voting Democrat all the time.

Has anybody started to get unsolicited phone calls, sometimes several times per day, from spoofed American phone numbers (mostly out of CA and NY) for either taking out loans against the value of your home OR for taking advantage of a program to pay back money owed to the IRS before the program gets removed by the Trump administration?

When it comes to the IRS one, you'll even get fake AI generated voices of people like Elizabeth Warren and other prominent female Democrats telling you about this program if you don't answer the phone on your messages.

They always come with a message at the end that says "Press 9 to be removed from our list, or press 2 to talk to an operator".

A google search for this will lead to quite a few hits from places like Reddit and Quora that will have dozens of people all complaining about it and saying that pressing 9 to get off the list does nothing, and that they believe that it actually caused the opposite effect with them getting even more of these phone calls after confirming to these people that your phone number is actively in use. People complained that there was nothing to do to fix this, and many had simply resigned to having to change their phone number altogether as being the only fix for the issue.

I have absolutely no idea how I found myself on this list because I am very careful with my information and never get spam phone calls.

But, I'm happy to announce that I have the fix that will allow you to keep your phone number, if you are among those unfortunate enough to somehow find yourself on this particular Indian Scam Caller list.

Last week when they called me, I pressed 2 to speak to an operator and I silently allowed them to give me the initial spiel...

Then I replied with "If I get one more call from you people, I'm going to fly to Chennai, find the building that you scammers are operating out of and I'm going to murder every single one of you motherfuckers in that building".

I've gone from an average of 3 calls per day for weeks down to zero calls in over a week.

Easy peasy, Japaneesy.

Let them know we're not taking this shit anymore.
