So, let's pretend everyone here had 6 months to live. We've all got stage 4 cancer called "Argue-itis". (For the record, I do not have stage 4 ANYTHING. Well, that I know of..)

What would you do with it?

Is there one meaningful thing you would do to try to change your country?

If you could murder one person who would it be?

JEEZUS, WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE MURDER?

First of all, anyone worth murdering would be significantly guarded, and you (or anyone) would unlikely to become a skilled assassin in 6 months, especially since your last three months would probably be on morphine.

Secondly, can't you think of anything CONSTRUCTIVE to do? The guy that I used to work with spent HIS last few months continuing to clean up the air, and his farewell email to his many colleagues and friends (who all liked and admired him, btw, and who didn't think he was some sociopathic genocidal creep) was to tell them to keep up the good fight. I myself have spent almost my entire professional life fighting air pollution, and I can see the results from when I first moved to LA lo these many years ago to today. So in a way, I feel I've ALREADY done something meaningful to change our country, or at least my part of it.

If Iknew I had six month to live, I would make sure that ALL of my affairs are in order... that dear daughter would be taken care of, that I would help my family both near and far in every way possible before I died so I wouldn't regret leaving anything undone, and that they would know ... REALLY know ...that I love them all.

AFA making a meanginful change in the nation: Can't be done in six months by any one average person, no matter how motivated you might be. Ya gotta be realistic about what's in your power.

So... is this like being granted ONE WISH by a genie in magic bottle? Like - being able to fly through the air or reverse all global warming pollution ... or all pollution for that matter? Or are these magic powers limited to only killing one person? Or are we talking about more human-scale abilities?

Because it seems like you've been fantasizing A LOT about which individual would you kill, in a world where you were only granted one power to kill one person. And your question is a bit vague on anything else.

I'd write the short stories "River Tam and the Problem of Evil." It begins with Jubal Early drifting in space, where Mal left him to die. Early will never understand how complicated it was for River to save his life. The stories end with millions in hyper-sleep traveling in thousands of ships to the Solar System. They will never know how complicated it was for River to save them.

First off, I would not murder anyone, I will not meet my maker with blood on my hands. As for doing something to change the country, *razzberries*. I would hop in my car and see some sites. I may change my will so my idiot brother and stupid sister-in-law don't get shit, I have some money saved and my car is is paid for so there's that. May give the car to a friend who needs it and give my money to the Salvation Army. As for my Zippo lighter collection, I may be buried with it.

As usual, good answers

I think there needs to be a complete revamp of the education systems in this country. I was talking to the woman at CVS last night about how she gave a penny to a teenage cashier and the cashier just could not process what she should do without the register.

It's REDICULOUS that we spend YEARS on Algebra and Trigonometry ect and the kids can't MAKE CHANGE. They don't know what an APR is, or how to build credit. But they know how to do math that 98% WILL NEVER USE??

Higher math should absolutely be an elective, like music theory, or computer design.

For that matter, High School should be pared down to three years. Basics and essentials. One year of college should be subsidized instead. That way, the kids learn if college life is right for them without tossing massive debt in the picture.

My cousins kid went off to college last year but couldn't deal with it and came home after a month. Still owes them the price of a used car.

Also, EVERY kid with a learning disorder need to be diagnosed and treated. The amount of pussy-footing around this we do here is insane. They literally could not diagnose my kid with anything specific for fear of getting it wrong and facing litigation.

My kid knew so much about psychology and how to recognize behavior patters that she was diagnosing her peers, directing them to online assessments, and helping them get accommodations at school. People here literally don't want help for their kids because they think it'll turn them into liberals. Meanwhile, the kids can't focus and turn classrooms into nightmares. Nail down the problems and FIX 'EM, dammit!

I also don't know that I hate any one person enough to go to the trouble of murdering them, provided that no person or politician gets away with ACTUALLY starting a Fascist Party. Thankfully, Chump is on the way out and I doubt any of them will be coming back now....The system has always half-assedly worked to prevent that, but it's clear that it could stop working. I'm a pacifist most days, but I really would join a resistance and possibly combat group to stop Fascism if I felt that this country had lost control over the dimwits.

I am concerned that If I were to keel over that my in-laws would swing back around to dominating hubby's life and trying to manipulate my kid's life and I don't know what I'm going to go about that.

I would like to burn down the house next to me, because it's older and cheap and literal crackheads keep moving in and making everyone miserable. Hopefully, we'll be long gone from this place by the time I pass on.

I used to have all these bucket list things I'd want to do, but the older I get the less I care. I literally can't eat 75% of the things I used to. I've even had to switch to lactose free milk to keep my stomach not angry.

IS THERE even one thing that anyone could do to change ANYTHING. Bombs and begging don't seem to have much effect. Killing groups of people just proliferates endless security screenings.

Sending a barrage of angry notes about Firefly's cancellation didn't do much. Got us a movie, I guess.

People barely blink when monks set themselves on fire.

Most of the public suicides that happen seem to only be about some kind of posthumous notoriety. I can't even think of anyone who tried to off themselves for a cause that wasn't religious.

Amen. Arithmetic. Home Ec. READING (So many get out f HS without learning to even read. You can teach yourself ANYTHING if you learn to read.) How to balance checkbook.

I would prolly insert one year of working a real job in between. So many kids stay in the education pipeline for so long that they have no real world experience. If paid commercial jobs aren't available, how about something like the Civilian Conservation Corps? Or Habitat for Humanity?

Amen and amen. The teachers' attitude is that they're there to teach, not as rehab therapists. But sometimes the only way you can get kids to learn IS by being a therapist. Our dd has NVLD and ADHD as a result of brain damage. There was one teacher who specialized in teaching children with vision disorders who also tend to be ADHD, and she taught dd to read in one month after an entire year of failure in a "regular" classroom. Another teacher (summer school only, unforunately) knew Visualizing and Verbalizing, and dd made alot of progress there, too.

Problem is, if you really wanted to make a difference you'd prolly have to assasinate 5,000 people, all over the world. And then, the system would just replace them with more sociopaths.

Similar concern here.

Alas, ours is the house the neighbors would want to burn down. We're making progress on fixing it up as fast as we can, but between being old and Covid, it's slow going. We have all the basics: roof, windows, hardwoord flooring indoors, repipe, re-drain, etc but it still looks like shit.

If I'm given 6 months to live, I won't be able to do diddle-squat in those 6 months if I haven't managed to accomplish whatever it is in my lifetime.

And I'm just trying to figure out the rules of this game, which seem to be about having a genie grant magic powers to do the impossible ... or to kill someone. It's hard to tell.

You have NEVER wanted to kill someone and get away with it?? Judging by how many people wipe out a house full of people or two, it seems to be the most common death wish in this country.

If you haven't, you have lived one heck of a sheltered life.

Nope, I never once wanted to kill anybody. I wished karmna would visit bad things on select individuals. I've theorized if history would have been different without this major figure or that major figure, or if baked-in systems and historic forces involving millions of people would have moved forward of their own inertia. But I never once wanted to kill anyone. And never once set about rationalizing why it was OK to want that, by claiming ... because ... people ... or because ... fascist ... or because ... if they don't fight to the death or kill themselves they're slaves and not worthy of life.

But if you DON'T remove them then you get Germany all over again.
If you don't fix an infection the body dies eventually.

It's happened over and over again throughout history. Stronger groups of violent people pick off weaker minority groups. If you don't pay attention, if you do nothing, the process resets and starts all over again and affects hundreds of years down the line.
