Not a very likely outcome after all of this manipulation to get us to the point we're at now though, I'm afraid.

Good luck with your shot though. Thanks for being a human trial.

I have not been sick in the 21st Century. None of my children get sick, either. Must be genetic. Back when I was working overseas in construction there was the occasional food poisoning or bad water, but Imodium would stop it and I never took a day off. Despite my perfect health as far as infectious diseases, I always get a flu shot, which is a different vaccine every year, so you might say it is a human trial. By the way, I have all my teeth, including the wisdom teeth, and no cavities, ever, even in my baby teeth. Same with my kids, thanks to fluoride, another one of those things, like vaccinations, that Republicans have reservations about.

When was that? While I was deep in drunken stupor, or during the year or so after I sobered up that I literally hated myself for all that I did?

Go fuck yourself, Kiki.

I earned everything I have. Because I'm better, smarter, faster, stronger and wiser with money than 90% of Americans.

President Trump is in bad spirits and avoids his official duties to instead focus on pursuing his claims that the election was stolen from him due to mass electoral fraud, The New York Times reported Saturday.

Citing advisors to the president, the Times reported that as the president continues to claim the election was stolen from him a month after his defeat, he is "moody" and "sometimes depressed".

As the president fixates on his election fraud claims, for which he has provided no compelling evidence, the US's number of daily deaths from the coronavirus is reaching new highs.

The US economy is in a fragile state, with congressional leaders so far have failed to hammer out a new stimulus deal.

The president is "ignoring the health and economic crises afflicting the nation" and is clearing his public schedule of meetings not related to his bid to overturn the election result.

Golly gee.
Libtards have negotiated against themselves to reduce their $2+ Trillion bloated shithole Bailout bill which they called "Relief" down to only $900 B shithole Bailout bill, which they now call "Stimulus"

Dems seem is such a rush to pass something to take credit for, before all of these lawsuits turn their House Seat Election Thefts back to the rightful winners of those seats.

I have not been any sort of cheerleader for McConnell, but in this matter he seems to be the greater steward of our bloated overspending tendancies - I only wish Trump followed suit.

Before the November elections, a second round of financial aid checks for American taxpayers was one of the few things Republican and Democratic lawmakers agreed should be included in another fiscal stimulus package.

But in the proposed $908 billion bipartisan package lawmakers are racing to pass before Christmas a second round of payments is not included.

That among other reasons is why Sen. Bernie Sanders and five of his colleagues in the Senate Democratic Caucus won’t back the bipartisan package.

“Given the horrific extent of the current crisis and the desperation that working families all over this country are experiencing, this proposal does not go anywhere near far enough,” Sanders, a Vermont independent, wrote in a letter obtained by Politico circulated to Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday.

“The American people need help and they need help now. We agree with President-elect Biden that a $1,200 direct payment should be included in this proposal,” states the letter signed by Sanders and Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Ed Markey of Massachusetts, Jeff Merkley of Oregon and Ron Wyden of Oregon.

“Please join us in demanding that any new COVID-relief proposal includes a $1,200 direct payment to adults and $500 to their children.”

Republican Sen. Josh Hawley has urged President Donald Trump to veto a stimulus package if it doesn’t contain a second round of stimulus checks.

To be completely honest, that was because you got a job you didn't earn on merit, and you've been riding on that advantage ever since.

Not true.

I started as a low level employee in a call center (a job, incidentally that a lot of college graduates take today because there is no REAL job for them out there after they graduate), and worked my way up to a IBM Mainframe Analyst while also getting the maximum 6% merit raise every year in between two promotions.

I sure as shit earned that big promotion. In fact, I was put up for it by other people without even being aware that it existed in the first place.
When I was initially put up for the promotion, I specifically told them that I didn't meet the requirement stated on the job posting that you needed a bachelor's degree.

Here you may have put kiki into a tailspin.
I am fair certain that kiki envisions merit as being equal to Laurels, without regard to competence or real world usefulness. I conjure that for her, a piece of paper proving that you partied and had sex for 4 years is the only measure of merit in the universe, and if the paperholder is incompetent and useless, that only means they should pursue their career within the public sector.
The concept that people have attained merit only when they are competent and useful and can perform the tasks and work is likely beyond her.
I base this understanding on the way she has not responded to simple statements here, and she could certainly prove me wrong by explaining what she is talking about, as opposed to denigrating your obvious and clear language.
I am not certain that she understands that in the real world, competence is the true measure of the standard of merit.'In Firefly, Jayne did not perform his tasks and saved the crew many times, just because he had toilet paper.
Interestingly, perhaps the most knowledge-intensive role on the crew was filled by Kaylee, who also did not have extra toilet paper.
Quote:

They all told me that's what they put for the online ads to weed out people that they've never met and they already know from working with me that I'm more than capable of doing the job.

Of all four people involved in my promotion, I'd only ever met one of them in person, shared lengthy conference calls with her and two others... and I never even met the fourth person, who ultimately made the hiring decision, that worked out of the Arizona branch and only even knew about me because of the other three.

I didn't get that because I was just some white dude.

Sorry to destroy your narrative, Karen.

Where I got lucky (and I DID get lucky) was that the great amount of money I was saving by not wasting a dime in 5 years got to some pretty insane amounts because I was in the market at the right time, and a company merger froze our accounts when they moved to a different platform right before the housing market crashed and I would have lost most of those gains. It was 4 1/2 years of 30% or greater returns in the most aggressive fund we had on offer on my 100%, fully vested, company matched 6% 401k contribution as well as the thousands of dollars per year they were putting into my account for profit sharing.

And that's why I don't play the Stock Market Roulette anymore.

The house doesn't always win.

I will boldly go on the record and say there is between a 1 and 99 percent chance Congress reaches a deal. The biggest breakthrough, a week or so ago, was when the yawning chasm between negotiators’ top-line numbers closed to a modest gap. Democratic leaders stepped off their hard line of a multitrillion-dollar package and accepted a $908 billion framework put forward by a group of Senate moderates like Joe Manchin and Susan Collins, as well as a bloc of House moderates in the Problem Solvers Caucus, who are eerily close to netting their first-ever solution to a problem. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is still pushing for his $500 billion plan, but the numbers are close enough. The problem is the same central policy issue that’s gotten in the way of a deal for six months: A liability shield is a nonstarter for many Democrats, and additional aid for state and local governments is a nonstarter for many Republicans. Either they finally reach the elusive compromise on that, or drop both and pass the rest. Or they pop off and do nothing. What’s your bet?

It would be easy to be confused in 2020 why she would be, but she's a relic from a long dead era where that actually used to mean something. Now it just means that you're literally the last person they hire for most jobs.

Oh, and... not only was it all earned, but since I didn't just go binge spending and buying a bunch of useless crap that I don't need, I still have just about as much as I did when I got that last good paycheck back in 2009 too.

It's 2020, and even though I have three flat screen TVs in my house, I've never actually bought a flat screen TV in my life.

My buddy tells me that the one he gave me a few months back cost him $2,000 when it was new. It doesn't surprise me since his monthly bills cost him as much as I can live on for an entire year if I wasn't remodeling my house.

Why the GOP Doesn’t Care About Pumping More Relief Money Into the Pandemic Economy

Corporate profits have recovered completely from their pandemic low and proprieters’ income has not only recovered but skyrocketed. Both are at or above their trendline growth from before the pandemic. Meanwhile, employees are doing poorly, according to the Federal Reserve. www.federalreserve.gov/releases/z1/

As long as corporate profits are doing OK, Republicans just can’t be bothered with employee compensation. That’s all the waiters and retail employees and so forth who are still furloughed and waiting for the economy to open back up.

McConnell rejects bipartisan Covid relief plan

Today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s staff informed congressional leadership offices that Senate Republicans would not support a $908 billion bipartisan proposal. Politico first reported the Kentucky Republican’s plan to brush aside the plan, which members of his caucus have helped to craft.

McConnell’s office declined to comment.

Trump Tries to Kill Covid Relief

A few days ago it seemed possible that we would in fact get some good news on the economic front. A bipartisan group of senators seemed close to agreement on a Covid relief bill that would fall far short of what we should be doing, but would be much better than nothing.

Then the lame-duck Trump administration intervened — destructively.

Until a few days ago the Senate appeared to be moving toward a bill that, while much smaller than Democrats wanted, would be better than nothing. The main obstacle seemed to be the determination of Mitch McConnell, the Senate majority leader, to include a poison pill — a blanket exemption of businesses from any liabilities related to exposing their workers to Covid-19 risks. But observers were hopeful that an agreement could still be reached.

Then came the Trump administration intervention — a proposal from Steven Mnuchin, the treasury secretary, that McConnell quickly endorsed even though it was disastrously wrongheaded.

I’m not sure whether the coverage of this discussion has fully explained just how bad Mnuchin’s proposal is. Many headlines emphasized the cost, a bit over $900 billion, which was similar to that of the emerging bipartisan bill, suggesting that the administration was weighing in with something positive.

In fact, however, the administration proposal completely eliminated the most important piece of any relief deal — expanded benefits for the unemployed — replacing it with one-time $600 checks that would be sent to everyone.

Again, think about it. For Americans who won’t be able to return to work while the pandemic is still raging, a one-time payment of $600 is grossly inadequate, while for those who haven’t lost their jobs it’s unnecessary.
It’s true that people might spend some of the grant, boosting overall demand — but overall lack of demand isn’t the main problem right now.

So what is Mnuchin thinking? We can’t rule out sheer ignorance. It is, sad to say, entirely possible that, nine months into the pandemic slump, administration officials still don’t understand the basic logic of relief.

Or President Trump is still trying to overturn the results of the election. He may imagine that he will gain more politically from sending everyone another check with his name on it than from helping those truly in need – the unemployed.

Whatever the motivation, Mnuchin’s proposal couldn’t have come at a worse time. It may well undermine the economic relief millions of Americans need.

McConnell is the grim reaper in a much more literal sense. As Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., summed it up: "Congress knows how to help workers and families. It knows how to prevent the looming recession," he tweeted in the wake of yet another awful set of unemployment numbers. "One person is standing in the way. Mitch McConnell's political games are costing lives and livelihoods."

Covid is infecting millions of Americans. And Mitch McConnell has blood on his hands.

That's an IF.

IF McConnell really will still be leader of the Senate in 2021, and IF he really does what (you claim) he says he'll do and block meaningful aid, THEN he'll be painting a big bullseye on Senate republicans for the midterm elections. That strikes me as not a very smart move.

But IF he won't be leader in 2021, THEN he's doing his best to torpedo Biden* now, by blocking aid in 2020 with the idea the fallout will land in 2021.

Assuming of course democrats* really intend to provide meaningful aid, and will do that if the 2 branches of the federal government are under democratic* control.

Obstructor of the Year:

My guy is Mitch McConnell, who has for the most part run the country during the COVID-19 crisis. And that's not a good thing. Let's take a look at his nearly year-long quest to speed-bump COVID financial relief.

It started okay last March. Congress passed a $2.2 trillion bailout bill; even McConnell could see that the economy was heading straight into the you-know-what. The bailout extended, and expanded, unemployment benefits, among other things, and provided aid to struggling businesses. Others were able to pay for rent and groceries because the Feds kicked in an extra $600 a week in unemployment benefits.

Sure, not everything went right. Folks like AutoNation and the Los Angeles Lakers had no business getting money intended for small businesses. But the bailout was a success anyway. The funds softened the blow of the recession. But more was needed; even Fed chief Jerome Powell backed additional relief. That was apparently too much for McConnell to take. Perhaps he was hoping COVID would just disappear by Easter and the economy would roar back like President Donald Trump's economic court jester, Larry Kudlow, said it would. That way, McConnell could turn his attention back to packing the federal courts.

But in May, Congressional Democrats passed at $3 trillion bill. Why? COVID didn't vanish, state and local governments were struggling big-time, and the enhanced jobless benefits would run out at the end of July. Mitch, though, refused to bargain. He didn't want to help those nasty blue states, for one thing.

Well, you know the rest of the story: the extended benefits ran out and millions of Americans remained unemployed—and many got sick and died as COVID spread across the nation. Still, McConnell persisted. So the Democrats passed still yet another bill, this time a $2.2 trillion one a few weeks ago. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi launched negotiations; "moderate" lawmakers came back with a $900 billion compromise, which eventually became a $908 billion plan. Well, McConnell still isn't budging, especially when it comes to state and local aid. (You, know, helping "blue" states is a bad thing to folks in the "red" colonies.) Unless of course, Mitch gets COVID liability protection for companies.

To make matters worse, Mnuchin, McConnell and the White House decided to swap out the extended unemployment benefits in the proposed bill for a one-time $600 check. Well, boys, you really need both.

"Maybe," tweeted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, "if everyone in the US incorporated as an LLC, Mitch McConnell would actually do something for them." Fair point, AOC. In any case, Congress is expected to pass something this week, partially at the urging of President-elect Biden, who wants a "first step" aid bill before he takes office. That's great, but Congress better get it right this time. There may not be another round of help unless the Democrats take control of the Senate after the Jan. 5 runoffs in Georgia. Mitch McConnell, after all, will always be Mitch McConnell.

I am certain that YOUR kind of "proof" does NOT change who 99% of people will vote for. What happens to the 1%, those people for which "proof" actually does change their behavior? That 1% will end up owning the country.

The least wealthy 50% of Americans own just 1.9% of the nation's net worth, while the top 1% own 30.5%.

I interact with that 99%. They think of themselves as brave, smart and hardworking, at least in their imaginations, but they end up being owned by people like me because they are cowardly, stupid and lazy in real life. Will they see themselves in the mirror as they actually are and then change? Not likely. If they would show more courage, they would do better in life. If they learned a few things, they would be much richer. The two biggest impediments to passing a COVID relief bill are money for local governments (opposed by Republicans) and liability protections for businesses (opposed by Democrats). So maybe the folks who designed the bipartisan $908 billion rescue package should just ditch both of them for now?

In a desperate bid to reach agreement, that group of lawmakers decided over the weekend to split their proposal into two pieces — carving out the most contentious items, money for local governments and liability protections for businesses, into a separate bill. The other bill, with a $748 billion price tag, would include broadly bipartisan funding for schools and health care.

Apparently the plan now is to try and get the $748 billion package appended to the omnibus spending bill, which has to be passed within the next week.

Covid-19 relief draft bill provides $100 billion “double-dip” tax deduction for the wealthy. There are NO stimulus checks, but there are big tax giveaways for well-connected business owners.

In recent months, nearly half a dozen standalone bills by members of Congress have floated variations of the same PPP tax deduction proposal.

The latest round of coronavirus relief legislation has been released in two parts. The first bill, slated at a cost of $748 billion, funds the PPP program along with $300 a week for unemployment benefits. The second bill ties Republican-supported liability protections for companies to Democrats’ ask for funding for state and local governments — the two segments of legislation that have stalled negotiations for weeks.

There has been little pushback to these tax giveaways, reflecting the general consensus in Congress around the benefits of business tax cuts, no matter how lavish. Media outlets and many lawmakers, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., have described the PPP extension and expansion as an “uncontroversial” aspect of stimulus talks.

It is only the Democrats that want a clean & pure form of Covid-19 relief. Pure means money only goes to those suffering, not the wealthy, but Mitch McConnell will NOT allow purity to get on the calendar for a vote; there has got to be a $100 billion worth of dirt for the rich attached to the bill to get Mitch's permission to place this on the legislative calendar. After 6 months of struggle and appeals to Mitch's better nature, the Democrats know they will get zero relief for the poor until they give Mitch a big, fat bribe.

Quote:

Democrats stonewalled all year on a new pandemic relief package. Now they're proposing a new plan that undercuts even Republican proposals, and screws everyone but - get this - defense contractors...

With the election over, the Democratic leadership in the space of a few weeks somehow negotiated against themselves, working with Republicans to push the total amount of a Covid-19 relief deal further and further downward, to the point where previous plans offered by the likes of Mitch McConnell and Steve Mnuchin now look like LBJ’s Great Society.

Democrats ultimately settled for less than a third of what they had set as a baseline for state and local aid, accepted a package without any $1,200 direct payments, and signed off on a plan that, after offsets, includes less than $350 billion in new money, well below a slew of pre-election proposals rejected by Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer as being too low.

Back in May, the Democrat-led House passed the HEROES Act
*, a $3.4 trillion relief package that was pitched as the bill Democrats really wanted. It contained $413 billion new dollars for $1,200 direct payments to citizens, as well as $437 billion in additional unemployment benefits, and a whopping $1.13 trillion for state and local governments.

Remember all of that state and local funding that Democrats insisted was so crucial to the aid package?

Today, the state and local aid package signed off on by Manchin and Warner is down to $160 billion, appropriated as part of a separate bill that may or may not pass at all,
with the main $748 billion plan. In other words, Democrats just agreed to take seven times less than the $1.13 trillion they asked for in the HEROES Act, and about half of Mnuchin’s $300 billion offer in October that Pelosi rejected as “sadly inadequate.”

Your source, Matt Taibbi, is a bullshitter/journalist pretending to know more than he knows.

Mitch McConnell has made it clear that he is just fine with zero dollars for Covid-19 relief. All the Republicans are perfectly happy with Mitch's gridlock in Congress. If the Democrats want anything from Mitch, they have to capitulate to his desires and the rules Mitch has set for them. I can't imagine any Democrats today doing what LBJ, when he was in the Senate, use to do to stubborn Senators. He'd get real close, breath in their face, make 'em feel uncomfortable about their personal safety if they continued to thwart him. Back in the good old days, the Senate was kept functional by real pressure applied skillfully. They don't do that anymore because it was not completely civilized and they now get the expected malfunctioning Senate and poor results from too much civility.

It is December 16th. Mitch McConnell will adjourn the Senate before Xmas. I can wait a few days to see how many gold coins he places in the stockings hung above the fireplaces of the rich and how many lumps of coal for the poor. Mitch will truthfully point out that a lump of coal has enormous value as heat and light, while gold is cold and cannot burn.

Before the pandemic, poverty was steadily declining, as you’d expect during an economic expansion. Then the pandemic hit, but thanks to the CARES Act poverty actually spiked downward to about 30 million people.

But since June, when the stimulus benefits ran out, poverty has grown and grown. It’s up by about 8 million people since its low point in June, and by about 5 million people compared to a trendline of where it would likely be if the economy had continued to expand. Either way, that’s a lot of people living in poverty who don’t have to be. Hopefully the bonus unemployment benefits in the relief bill currently being debated will get that number back down at the start of 2021.

It was NOT Nancy who held this up. Mitch McConnell was perfectly content to never pass anything, blaming the Democrats, but then something awful happened. What? Mitch can read the polling data. If Mitch doesn’t pass a bill, two Democrats will become Senators from Georgia. That means Mitch would lose his position as Senate Majority Leader.

After passing the $2-trillion CARES Act in late March, Congress lost bipartisan momentum, even though it was clear in the summer and fall that much more help was needed.

Through it all, Senate Republicans — ostensibly concerned about adding to a federal deficit they had inflated by passing huge tax cuts and burgeoning defense budgets — balked at spending more. House Democrats approved a $3-trillion relief package in May; Senate Republicans countered with a $500-billion proposal in September.

The bigger problem was that McConnell felt no pressure to negotiate, leaving Democratic leaders to try to cut a deal with the Trump administration. And the erratic and unfocused dealmaker in chief couldn’t decide in the weeks leading up to the election whether he wanted a big bill, a more modest one or none at all.

Without Trump, the deal that’s emerging isn’t a triumph of compromise but rather a failure to find consensus. McConnell offered to drop his “red line” demand for a liability shield in exchange for Democrats’ abandoning their demand for a state and local government bailout. The package would still send billions of dollars to states and cities, but in a highly targeted way — for example, to support COVID vaccinations, testing and contact tracing.

We’d like to believe that the looming end to extended unemployment benefits was enough to prod McConnell into action. But the negotiations this week might also have been triggered by the looming end of the terms of Georgia’s two Republican senators, David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, who will face Democrats Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock in runoffs Jan. 5. Both Republicans have come under fire for opposing the benefits provided in the CARES Act, and if they lose in the runoffs, Republicans will lose control of the Senate.
