Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

Quote:Originally posted by 6IXSTRINGJACK: So. I've made up my mind that I'm done feeling lousy after being shitty with people regarding this. Whether or not I think it's all bullshit is moot at this point. The panic is real, and that's all that matters in our current situation. Rather than add to anybody's stress by trolling, or my own by getting frustrated by what I see as stupidity and a grand overreaction to things, I'm going to choose to instead try to empathize with people who have now seen a great deal of changes in their lives, overreaction or not, and all stupidity aside. Stay safe, do whatever it is that makes you feel good about yourself and your situation, and try not to stress out too much. I apologize to anyone here who has been further stressed out by anything that I've said in the past week above and beyond what the world has been throwing them. Whether or not we see eye to eye about anything regarding our current situation we find ourselves in doesn't matter. Like it or not, we're in it, and I realize that my comments to people directly and in general about this aren't helping anything or anyone. I still firmly believe we're going to all look back on this in a few weeks or a month and laugh, and I hope that I'm right about that. But even if I am, that's not going to change the fact that at this moment we all are being forced to make changes to our daily lives that can be very uncomfortable for many of us, and I can only hope that most of it will be temporary. Try not to panic, and if you're sent home from work try to make the most of that time. We'll get through this.

You will be audited about this at the end of the year, but in the meantime we will send you a $500 check every week for 20 weeks. If Congress extends the program, the checks will keep coming. There are already a lot of scams out there related to the coronavirus. Don't ever sign up for anything and offer personal details to anybody unless you know exactly who it is you're giving it to. If it's a real government program, they likely have most of the data already anyhow and would only ask you certain questions to verify your identity, like the five or so that are asked to verify you are who you are when you get a credit report. In all actuality, any program requiring you to sign up for it would likely be linked to the social security website, so I wouldn't sign up for anything that didn't have a link from ssa.gov unless specifically told otherwise. Also, with the US Census coming up, it would make sense for any information or direct links to be put up there as well. Do Right, Be Right. :)

Do Right, Be Right. :)I made an attempt to sign up for an online account at Social Security. I could not do it. The security was ridiculously high. SS asked questions that could not be answered without my credit report in front of me. Medicare was very different. It was easy to sign up for the online account to track my coverage. www.ssa.gov/myaccount/ www.mymedicare.gov 6ix, it is perfectly okay with me that you never receive federal money because you are too suspicious to signup. I have never been scammed in my life, on line or off, other than volunteering to fight Nixon's War in Vietnam. Because I'm so trusting, if money is being given away, I am signing up for it. But maybe I should get my most recent credit report so that I can finally have an online social security account? I think I'll get $4,500 per month when I turn 70 in 2022, but I'd like to be sure. www.annualcreditreport.com The Joss Whedon script for Serenity, where Wash lives, is Serenity-190pages.pdf at www.mediafire.com/folder/1uwh75oa407q8/Firefly

Quote:Readers should be highly skeptical of emails and websites that purport to provide information or goods related to the ongoing pandemic. The key fact to confirm is the primary source of those communications. Readers should never take source claims at face value. One of the most reliable sources for legitimate coronavirus-related information is this page from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Communications from local departments of health can also be helpful, but only when the emails or websites can be confirmed as coming from a legitimate agency. These departments can usually be found through Web searches—for instance, the San Francisco Department of Health.
