Give the folks who edited the trailer an award: I wanted to see this movie from the first time I saw the trailer.

Select to view spoiler:

Unfortunately, I think it was much better than the movie. I found myself wanting the evil queen to win. The opening sequence with the young brothers was sad, but forgivably so. The setup with the adult brothers leading a group of con-men was acceptable, because it seemed to be intended as foreshadowing of much more interesting things to come. It went down hill from there.

Maybe the sound was set up incorrectly in the theater where I saw it: I couldn't understand about a quarter of what the supposedly French agents were saying, even though every time they were in a scene, they took over from the main characters. It was as if the director just had something against French people: they were gross, without exception, and I don't think they were necessary to the plot. It would have been simpler and more believable if the brothers simply heard of the town's problem with the missing girls and went there to try to pull their con. My husband claims he heard the main torturer say he was an Italian man serving the French government, but I didn't make it out -- I certainly couldn't tell what he was supposed to be from his accent. And how could his being of a different nationality be important? It wasn't explained, as far as I could tell.

The post-production people seemed to drop the ball on more than the sound. The CGI of the wolf, the spider-web-throwing horse, and the little mudball-cum-gingerbread man were so bad I was unable to focus on the story they were supposed to build. CGI should not distract from the story.

The simpler work to create the fantasy of the still-young queen was much more effective. It was also well-played all around. It would have been a better twist to have her annihilate the occupying army and claim Will (Matt Damon) as her new prince, like she threatened. I haven't worked out how his death-wound was just a spell to be reversed.

Perhaps I am just very much lacking in imagination.

Thanks for listening, I needed to share. I hope that if you go see it, you enjoy it more than I did. I still really like Matt Damon and I hope this movie does not hurt his career.

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

Sigh... I was afraid that would be the case, but since I adore Heath Ledger, I was hoping the movie would turn out to be more than another Hollywood bait'n'switch. Oh, well. Thanks for posting. Now I know I can save my money for a third or fourth viewing of Serenity.

I think Terry needs to take some time off and get back his movie whimsy.

Lots of good ideas that added up to a crappy movie in my opinion. Sucks when that happens.

I really enjoyed it. From what the trailers looked like I wasn't sure, but as soon as I figured out I was watching a comedy everything clicked into place.

Unfortunately, my sister and I were the only ones laughing during the movie. (The rest of the audiance looked at us like we were nuts.)

I, personally, love the action/comedy/thriller kinda movie.

It was a little gory for my taste, but I still very much enjoyed it.

The sad thing is as unimpressed as I was, my group was still laughing more than anyone else in the theater.

I am planning on growing a big black moustache. I'm a traditionalist.

that reminds me of when I went to see 'Sin City'
my friends and I were laughing our heads off,
but most of the people in the theater didn't see any humor...
I'm sorry, but all that gushing blood?
It was just like Saturday night live when Dan Akroyd was being Julia Child and cut 'her' hand...
I guess you have to have my twisted brain.
