Hey All

Since we're FIREFLY fans and into Joss Whedon and all that, we obviously know about the huge feminist slant that Joss has in his works. While at times it's spot on and very insightful and works perfectly, there are at times where it does get a bit preachy and annoying at times (I always think of Joss during LIFE OF BRIAN when at one of the meetings of the People's Front of Judea, Eric Idle keeps interrupting the meeting with "or woman." and John Cleese goes "Why don't you shut up about women, Stan, you're putting us off.").

Anyways. A few weeks ago, I was listening to the radio to a drive home show. And the DJ said that in a recent poll or survey taken, it was found out that men are more likely to give up things for a woman more likely than for a woman to give up anything for a guy. Like if a guy is completely in love with a woman he's dating or engaged too and is offered a high paying job in another city or something, he would turn down the job so that he would be with her. But if the role was reversed, then the woman would ditch the guy and take the job in the other city.

Now, for all I know I either got the details wrong, or this was completely made up and I don't know it. But I do think that this is an interesting bit of sociology here. Now, we're supposed to believe that men are dogs and only want to dominate women and all that shit. But I honestly believe that no matter how much of a bravado facade we put on, that guys can be romantic saps. Like Jerry Seinfeld said "We like women. We want women. But that's pretty much all we've figured out so far." So I think that given the opportunity to have and hold onto women, we would pretty much give up anything to be with one.

So what do you guys think? Do you think that this survey is complete bullshit, or do you think that there is some truth to the matter.

I try to stay out of the whole male/female debate because it seems to me the biggest can of worms you could open. But for once I'm willing to get into the feminist debate.

"And it starts with a sentence that might last a lifetime, or it all might just go down in flames. If I let you know me, then why would you want me? Each day I don't is a shame. Each day I don't is a great shame."

VETERAN

Don't squat with your spurs on.

As I read your post all I can think of is Richard Pryor circa 1977..."What have women got to complain about?... They've got half the money and all of the ......"
