River sat the helm of Serenity. She found herself at peace both in mind and body. The crew had all gone to their bunks for the night. River gazed out into the middle of No and Where, the stars and darkness didn’t overwhelm her like before.

She felt anew, like she was all cleaned up, scrubbed out, shiny. Like she had just begun. It was surreal but reassuring at the same time. Beginnings were generally cautious times where you treaded carefully to be sure of your footing but River felt that she knew everything she needed to.

This clean slate was like the Space, the darkness; it had neither road nor signposts, just the beginnings of a journey. River pressed in the coordinates of their next destination, Providence leaned back in the pilot’s seat and smiled.
